| Dogs and puppies in need of adoption!! The Marion Grant Humane Society is closing and they will euthanize all of the puppies and dogs that haven't been saved by the end of June. I'm including the information that I have and the link. If you know of anyone looking for a new four-legged member of the family, please encourage them to look here first. Marion Grant Dogs |

| Thats so sad, why cant they just take them to another shelter. I know our shelter would take them in if it was closer. |

| This is so freakin sad & infuriating at the same time. WHY do people get dogs and then dump them off when they no longer are entertained by their puppy cuteness??? Really. WHY? I don't get it. These poor dogs. It makes me so flippin' mad I can't see straight. I wonder if there's another rescue group or organization in the area that can take them in? There has to be. OP, do you know any details surrounding this situation?

| I think its so sad how people just discard their pets as if they were trash! I've been looking on Petfinder & Craigslist lately since we've been trying to adopt, and it sickens me some people's excuses for rehoming! We're adopting an 11 yr old Yorkie because I hate to think of her living her last few years neglected or with someone who doesn't know anything about the breed. I hope all these dogs & puppies find GOOD homes!

| New question -- I just did more reading on this -- what about the cats? Do they go too? I feel so bad for cats in shelters. Over 70% of cats (I believe that's the correct percentage) taken into shelters are euthanized each year. It's so hard to move them. It's so heartbreaking. When I went into the SPCA here to adopt a new kitty when we first moved here last year, there were 3 or 4 rooms of cats, floor to ceiling in cages, some rooms with center aisles, with 2 cats per cage. I ended up taking home 3 adult kitties to go with Osiris, the rescue we've had for 8 years now & Amelia. The sad thing is that it didn't even make a difference. Just opened up room for more kitties to take their place. I hate hearing stories like this. It truly breaks my heart.

| I always think about the cats too! There always seemed to be so many of them needing to be adopted. Its awful. Altering should be made a legal requirement of all owners, unless they are proven reputable breeders! BTW: AmeliaBadelia I love your name! Those were my favorite books when I was learning how to read!

that's soooooooooooooooooo sad - I don't understand why they have to set deadlines and go thru with killing so many pets - these poor babies didn't ask to be born....I just don't understand people and you're right Hepburn - some of the reasons for 'sheltering' a dog are absurd .... Why call it a shelter if it's a KILL ZONE ? | |

| Ok, I just did some emailing....I don't know if it will do any good, but it was worth a shot. Hopefully someone will pick up this story and run with it. I counted 59 dogs that currently stand to be euthanized. That is completely unacceptable. MsFamous -- I love your name even more! Audrey is my heroine -- I came SO close to naming Amelia either Ms Famous (after Mr Famous, himself) or Assam Assam. I decided on Amelia instead because I got her when we went down to the beach house on Amelia Island. Lots of great memories there - It's my favorite place! So, it made sense to name her after it.
