| Need some Doggie Door Advice Can anyone recommend a good doggie door that fits in the wall? We are thinking of getting one for our yorkie and jack russell as we have 2 1/2 acres of fenced in yard for them to run....Of course when we're out or at night it would be locked. But now that it's warm, they're constantly wanting to be let out & in... |

| If you have a sliding glass door it would be easier to just get the panel that fits it. If you have to cut a hole in the house, make sure the doggie door you buy is adjustable to different size thickness. |

| I have the HUGE part that fits in the slider. I just want to warn you about the hawks, owls, and coyotes. I have 2.5 acres also and I had always let the greyhounds loose in the yard. Two dog doors, one on each side of the house. (I have not taught my Max to use the dog door.) Anyway, one night at about 12:45 am, a coyote came in the yard (jumped the 5 fy chain link) and got the tri-pod greyhound..my DH heart dog. She is alive today due to the wonderful vet. (and mega $$$) If the wild dogs, and coons and hawks, and owl, get hungry enough they will get your babies. Max, due to size..3.15# is not allowed out alone. Be careful..if they go after a 70# tri-pod, think what they could do for a 3-10# yorkie.

| Scary story. We put in a cat door that I got at Petco. No trouble installing it and all of our dogs go through it easily (except Ruby who is expecting next week. Ha!) The "dog" sized doors were just too big for the space I wanted to use.

| I bought one of those Solo Pet doors that opens up automatically when the dog gets near it and closes after they go out. It is triggered by a magnet that the dog wears on its collar. We have raccoon, squirrel and possums in our neighborhood, even though we are in the burbs and they can't get in the house since the door closes after the dog goes out. You can adjust the time the door stays open so that more than one dog can go out at a time. You also have a switch to turn the unit off, like at night when you don't want them to go out. It is not a cheap product but it is made well and I like the locking feature so that the critters can't come in. I also is insulated very well so you don't get a breeze coming in through the door. We have 2 installed one in the house and one in their dog room that goes out to a little yard for them.

| Doggie Door Yes, we're VERY aware of the hawks & coyotes -- here in CT they're all over the place and very smart. The back of our house is all windows so the minute I would hear the swish of that doggie door I would watch over them. Too many sad stories. When we had two jack russells a hawk went after one of them -- one of the jacks saw this - tackled the hawk - ripped out the tail feathers (along with some skin) and sent the bird away stunned and very injured. My son still has the "trophy" feathers in his room!! That jack russell, Maddie, is still with us and would be "guarding" our little yorkie, Emme. |

| Right now we have two cat doors. One goes from the breakfast room out into the garage which my guys never use. It was here when we bought the house. The picture is of Razael on the left and Azrael on the right, watching daddy doing some work in the garage. The other cat door is in the sun room which Zada and Azrael do use when I'm home to watch them when they do go out. We have not taught Razael how to use it yet because she's so independent and a tom-boy that she would be running outside every two minutes. We bought a cat door panel for the slider, but our slider is old and the little door stop at the bottom that you screw in didn't work, so we're going to buy a new slider. We were going to replace all three sliders anyway. Anyway, you can see the cat door works for these guys very well. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...4-10-08005.jpg |
