| Vacation Ideas I am looking for ideas for a vacation for my family. I would prefer to stay under $1500 (if possible)...want to stay in the states. NO DISNEY...please! I was thinking of a trip that we could go to several different places...something different than the beach. We all Love the beach and if we go to the beach I am looking at Florida or maybe even beaches along Virginia or Georgia We love nature and my eldest is very much into history, war, etc...at the beach waves are a must for the boys..I would love something right on the beach. Open to All ideas! Thank you! I am beating myself on the head trying to come up with something fun Boys are 13 and 6

| Myrtle Beach-you could rent a house and hang out on the beach for a few days, (I know you said you want something OTHER than a beach too) plus there is stuff to do right off the beach, all within walking distance. You could picnic, go camping, etc. Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri-also can rent houses/condos and there are lots of activities to do and things to see, like horseback riding, fishing, museums, carnivals, etc. Both places I know you can get GREAT deals if you go in the "off season" and maybe take your vacation a little early or late this year. We rented a very nice, new 4 BR/ 3 BA condo over Spring break in March at the Ozarks a couple years ago for $600 for the WEEK!!! It came with everything we needed-bedding, towels, laundry room, grill, right down to the spice rack and the baggies & foil in the kitchen.

| That sounds great...we stayed at North Myrtle Beach a few years back. I fell in love with it! So relaxing. I like the idea of the horseback riding and fishing and such. However, I am doing my best to take them to different places each year...I know..sounds silly. Thank you for helping me!

| When I was growing up our family used to take a week long beach vacation to North Mrytle Beach we would stay at Ocean Creek condominiums, they are right on the beach and right across the street from Barefoot Landing and right up the road from Hollywood at the beach. I used to really enjoy it. Also, I hear Savannah is beautiful and Charleston, SC is a nice place to visit. It's got the beach but also some historical things as well. Or my co-worker is taking this Route 66 trip starting in California and ending up back here in Ohio. It sounds kind of interesting, lots of stuff to see and do, but it's also pretty much just a car trip so not sure if that's somethign that interests your family or not.

| I wanted to rent an Rv originally but I suppose with gas prices.. We are good to take road trips so that is not out at all. My oldest said something about going to California..which figures because my good friend who lived there for 4-5 years just moved out here...thats what you get for procrastinating! He talked about the big red wood trees...or are they seqouias(sp?) Also, he said Yellowstone park..so slowly the ideas are surfacing! Thanks!

| Its funny you should ask that! I moved up here almost nine years ago with my husband saying...I'll take you to NYC, DC & Niagra Falls....I finally went with a girlfriend and the kids to NYC this past summer Now each year we (my mother-n-law, myself, and all the kids) go to West Virginia the weekend before all the guys hunt..I just said something to her about when we come back that maybe we should just keep driving and go up to Niagra Falls! So I think we may do that next month in April. Vacation will be in June..probably around the third week. I looked up vacation info for Yellowstone National Park...geez it is salty! Its amazing that we could go to an island cheaper. It normally costs us around $3000 or so but what I am trying to do is only take "bigger..meaning $" every other year so that we don't have to break our back saving that kind of money every year. Some of the beach locations will be hard to get at 1500 also....airfare..or gas. We may end up camping out in the back yard for a week with a wading pool off to the side! Keep the ideas coming..I'm looking up Michigan right now!

| If I remember right, there is also a Children's Museum (probably good for your younger child), a ship you can tour and maybe even an Indian tour. Then there is always the Mackinac Bridge.

| We stayed in Michigan near Traverse City one year. We stayed in a little cabin right on the lake that allowed dogs for around $600 for the week. We had a canoe and a short walk away you could rent small water craft. One day we rented a pontoon boat and cruised all over. Another we drove to the big sand dune...can't remember what it's called, but it was really pretty cool. We road bikes a lot, (there was a great trail that took you right into town), and really had a wonderful time. We've kept it near the top of our list of all time favorite vacations. I'll try to figure out exactly where we stayed if you'd like. We've also rented cottages on Tybee Island, in the summer for relatively cheap. You've got the beach and nearby Savannah. If you're taking the furkids there is even a small dog park right on Tybee. Good luck!

| I would love more info! I remember growing up when we lived in Georgia we used to go to the Chatahoochee (sp?) River and water raft or we would do the stone mountains...I have such fond memories of this and think my boys would do well with this sort of thing...but w/ plenty of options. I love the beach and dream of going to Maine or Rhode Island...but don't tell..I think I would rather it be an "adult" thing..maybe even girlfriends.. I guess I just want each vacation to leave a lasting memory other than yeah, we did the same ol thing every year. You all are giving me wonderful ideas! Keep em coming!

| My suggestions: Rehoboth Beach, DE Dewey Beach, DE Ocean City, MD ETA: What about Colonial Williamsburg? I think they run specials were you can visit Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, Water Country, and possibly a few other places.

| Ok..I have found a couple of different options...let me know what you think. Option 1. Found an ocean front cottage in Daytona for $385 for one week! The place looks nice but my only hangup is when researching what else there is to do other than Racing...I am not seeing a whole lot. For those of you who have been there..maybe you can give me some ideas.... Option 2...found a couple of places on Typee Island..I think this place looks like a lot of fun..haven't done a lot of research on the area though.. Option 3...got a bit crazy...Flying out to San Francisco, staying at the Fisherman's Wharf. Spending a couple days there seeing Alcatrez, Golden Gate Bridge and then heading over to Yosemite and the Sequoia's in Wawona..Only hang up is how expensive the flight is! Option 4...same craziness...Flying out to Vegas spending a day or two at a kid-friendly hotel then going out to Fresno and taking a train to the Grand Canyon where we would stay and horseback ride, river rafting....flight is considerably cheaper but I'm not to keen on Vegas..but know that a whole week at the Canyon is too much... Alright...need your input...maybe new ideas? Thanks!
