| Those F1 - F12 Keys.... OK, this thread is soooo random, it deserves it's own forum...we could call it...Random Thoughts Not Really Worth Mentioning, hehe. Does anyone ever use those F1 - F12 keys up there?? I mean, what on earth are they for? Is it worth it to try to learn? When I'm typing a post, do I really need those? They just look so "official" all perched up there by themselves. If I touch one will it send me hurtling into cyber NO NO land? And if I get sent there how would I ever get out? I could never visit my friends at YT again *sniff* ! And those keys are so far away, lol! When I was in typing class in highschool (eons ago, really) I did OK, not secretarial school speed by any means but respectable...at least until we got to the * dun dun dunnnnnnn * Number and !@#$%^&*()_+ line up there. Well, my fingers just refused to go there without looking. Nuh uh, not gunna do it!! lol! Maybe my fingers were insulted because they are short and it wasn't fair that those numbers were soooooo far away?? Maybe they thought, Hey, I've obediently mastered A - Z, the period, space bar, a random semi-colon here and there. I've worked hard, but people, this finger/brain coordination stuff is work!! Anyway, now I'm get-tin' OLD! Should I really have to learn F1 - F12?? I'm thinkin' not! What do you guys think?? Just a thought: Maybe I could train Bo to sit in on my computer table and when I call out a number, he can press the key for me. Hmmmmm

| I use F5 for refreshing the page when I am on yorkietalk. It gives you the page with the most recent postings.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | oh oh i know, when you are playing solitare F2 gives you a new game, F5 means refresh, F11 gets rid of the top part of the screen on the internet and the bottom, like where the favorties and stuff are, it gets it back too!!! those are the only ones i know. you're right that was kind of random, but very funny!! lol

| I have to use f2 on my laptop to connect me to the internet. But I dont know about the rest. They have little icons on them so I am sure if I just took the time to figure them out they would be useful

| Cynthia, you crack me up. Those keys are for when my computer won't boot up or the screen freezes...they're there to be pounded on!

| Erin, I have used maybe F11 or F12 sometimes for booting up under a special menu now that you reminded me of it. But only when I'm in dire straits and nothing else works. I love your comment, "they're there to be pounded on". lol! That makes the most sense to me!

| You are too funny! I don't use them either and I am also getting too old to learn. This was alot of thinking for as early as you made this post. hehe Are you sleep deprived or an early riser? My brain doesn't kick in till at least mid morning. Quote:

| Gaming. The Function keys are used TONS in gaming. Say that I'm playing Everquest or World of Warcraft and the 2nd person that has been invited into my group (F2) is in dire need of some healing as she is being whacked on repeatedly by a "Deviant Rotting Zombie Warlord" or worse, a "Fangtooth Rabid Howling Yorkshire Terror". Well, I immediately hit F2 to select my groupmate and click a numerical button that I have linked to the Heavy Runecloth Bandage that I made myself (First Aid - Skill level 300. Thank you very much!) and HOPE that by the time I am done channeling this act of bandaging, that F2's Health meter will still have a little color in it so that she won't die, turn into a ghost and need to be ressurrected. Meanwhile, F3 and F4 have jumped in to cause enough aggro on said "Fangtooth Rabid Howling Yorkshire Terror". Of course, Player F5 is casting buffs on F3 and F4 from a distance. F2 is now able to find a safe spot to down a healing potion to top of her health meter. So as not to leave you hanging on this exciting fight, "Fangtooth Rabid Howling Yorkshire Terror" is defeated. On its corpse is a lovely Epic Cloak with a + 20 to Health that is awarded by a random roll of the dice by all group members to Player F2! Player F2 is so thrilled that she hands all group members a delicious mug of Dwarven Stout. Now, doesn't this make you just want to log off of YT to run to your nearest EB store for a MMORPG, or what? |
