| Anyone have experience with Dachsunds? A friend of a friend has a dachsund puppy she needs to re-home. She has both parents and several other dogs and can't keep this one. She was born around Christmas time so she's still a baby. I would love to take her, but I'm not sure how my furbaby would deal with that. He's pretty protective of his mommy and he's been the only child for almost a year now. It would be nice to have someone for him to play with when I'm at work though so he isn't all alone. Has anyone had any previous experience with dachsunds and/or integrating them into a family with yorkie's ? I'm just trying to figure out what I'm getting into here, because I know as soon as she sends me a picture I'm gonna want this puppy. She tried taking her to a local pet store and the poor thing freaked out so bad that they called her and told her she had to come back and get her. any advice would be great !

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I have a Mini Dachshund and my Yorkies get along just fine with her. In fact, Tatum (my female Yorkie) LOVES to play with her. They do excellent together. Pippi (my Mini Dachshund) will be 5 years old this June

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Just wanted to add that you do have to be careful with their backs as their spines are so much longer than most dogs and they can be very easily injured. If you do get this baby, just be careful with letting her jump...watch that long back of hers

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I don't own one but my sister did bring her dachshund, Chance with her last summer for a 3 day visit. He and Ruby got along very well (didn't have Reno at the time), he was a very loving little guy. And, Ruby is not normally very receptive to new dog visitors but she was fine with him... ......as you can see....Ruby Pics 308resize.jpg

| Maybe I should have them "introduced" before I make a decision. Should I go to her or should I have her come to me so Teddy is on his own turf?

| My little girl Addison had two good dashie friends! They got along perfect, one male and one female. I think they were miniture because they were a little larger than she is. You do have to be careful about their backs. But for the most part they are super sweet loving little weenies!

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Maybe you could bring the puppy over to your house, just to see how Teddy does with her there. Although don't be surprised if he is a little freaked out at first...after all, he has been used to being the only baby for the past year almost

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Oh my, they do look alot alike, don't they! Could be they are. I know Chance came from a show/breeder in the Dallas area. That last pic of Pippi in the glasses is too cute!!

That's what I'm afraid of, how can I tell if he'll ever not be freaked out ? My cat STILL hates Teddy

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Hahaha, thanks girl Pippi is just so silly! I don't think they came from the same breeder though as Pippi didn't come from a show breeder But regardless, they sure do look ALOT alike!!

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I would just bring the puppy over for a few hours...let Teddy be around her for a while and see if he gets more used to her as time passes. You never know...they could really surprise you They might get along perfectly! Chances are, there will be some booty sniffing and some barking, but I'm sure they will do just fine together

| THanks for the advice, everyone. She just e-mailed me pictures and this puppy is absolutely adorable!!!! I'm going to set up a playdate for her and Teddy and see how they do. Then I just have to convince my hubby that we need another rugrat Maybe I'll just do what I did with Teddy and just bring her home - surprise!!!!
