| My new favorite thing I finally found some fake bacon that tastes halfway decent - well, it isn't all that great on its own, BUT put it on two slices of toasted wheat bread with tomato and lettuce and you got yourself one super yummy meat-free BLT! I just polished off TWO of them they are so good!

| Don't hold out on us, what was it? I get Morningstar and really like it. My daughter's best friend who is not vegetarian actually prefers it to real bacon- I wouldn't go that far but it's good.

| Mmmm, quorn chicken! I had it last night. I finally found the gruyere stuffed patties. OMG sooo good! My daughter had the nuggets which I've never bought before. She took a bite and jumped up and took the box out of the freezer, looked at it and sat back down. I said what on earth are you doing? She said she thought she had heated up the wrong thing and was eating real chicken.

| Yep it was by Morningstar Farms. I don't care for it alone (that goes for any of the fake bacons), but omg it is SO GOOD in a BLT! I'm going to make myself another one for lunch! FYI, if you haven't tried the Yves brand, don't. I took one bite and gagged. lol It was the whole reason I was reluctant to try veggie bacon again.

| Can I ask a really dumb question? all you vegetarians... why do you eat 'fake' meat? I mean do you crave the TASTE of MEAT? Im just curious! thanks!

| I actually am not fond of most of the "fake meat" products out there. I could live my whole life just eating plain veggies and be happy, BUT, I have a family to think about too. I wanted the kids to see that we could still have somewhat traditional foods and still be kind to animals. For example, Olivia came home and said she wanted to take a turkey sandwich in her lunch because her little friend at school always brings a turkey sandwich in her lunch. Well, there is a veggie version of turkey slices so she was able to do that. For Christmas my family always makes a huge pot of spaghetti. Well, I make our spaghetti (with soy crumbles instead of ground beef and sausage) beforehand and take it with us. That way the kids still get to eat normal looking spaghetti right along with their cousins. So there you have my reasons for including the fake meat products in my diet. Plus, this veggie bacon and tomato sandwich is super good! Did I mention that? lol

I wouldn't say I eat a lot of fake meats but for me it makes things easier sometimes. I wasn't raised a vegetarian so planning meals with meat is the way I learned to cook and so it's more natural (easy) for me. The longer I'm a vegetarian the easier it gets to plan meals without meat. Also my hubby eats meat but will eat fake meat too so it just makes everything simpler. Last night he threw some real chicken on the grill for himself so having the fake chicken for my daughter and myself gave me the ability to just throw together a salad and, ta da! Dinner!

I bought the gruyere stuffed patties the other day. I wasn't going to get them because they were $5.99 for a box of 2 but my fiance made me and then he made them for me with some pasta and newman's own marinara the other night. It was amazing!!!! I think it is the best chicken product out there. haha...that is funny. Sounds like something I would do. I am always afraid when someone makes something for me. My uncle did this a few years back. He went to our house and was making us dinner. I took one bite of my chicken pattie and thought it had went bad. Then like a week later I realized he had grabbed the wrong box!

I use the soy crumbles for tacos and it's an easy meal that the vegetarians and the meats eaters in my family will eat. I grew up with an egg and sausage casserole being our traditional Christmas breakfast. Now I make it with soy sausage and everyone's happy. Fake meat is a very good thing sometimes.

| One of my friends is a vegetarian because she does not want to harm the animals. So, she is not against the flavor of meat, but is against having the animals be killed.

| Thanks all! I was just wondering how that all worked, like what prompted the production of 'fake meat' ... I gotcha though, makes sense!

| I wasn't a vegetarian until I worked at a SDA hospital that didn't serve meat....at least, when I first worked there, they didn't serve it at all, even to patients who weren't vegetarians. When I first started there, I didnt' realize that and I went to the cafeteria for lunch and they had "skallops" on the menu, so I got some of them, thinking "wow, Stanford NEVER had anything like scallops"....when I got back up to the nurse's lounge, I looked at them, and thought "wow. those are the BIGGEST scallops I've ever seen"...but they tasted really good with lemon juice and a little tartar sauce. I think it took me a couple of months before I realized they were made from gluten and came in a can, LOL . They also made really yummy cottage cheese patties and special K loaf. That's when I realized I didnt' need meat, esp. red meat in my diet. To me, it's not craving meat per se, it's just wanting something that's a change of pace.
