| My Vegas woes! I had mentioned we were going to Vegas to meet up with some family members from the 17th till the 20, and also said we would be bringing the three fur-girls and staying at the Marriott Residence Inn, which we dearly love the one in Morgan Hill. The one in Vegas was stinky, filthy carpet and their breakfast is not very nice. WELL, we will never go back to Vegas again. All the family members said the same thing. It was so poluted and dirty that we felt oily & dirty by the end of the day. The hotel doesn't water the grass so it was dead and nasty dirty. They have the waste bags for owners to pick up after their dogs, but by the looks of the grounds, no one ever did. Horrible. Walking along the strip was just pure torture. All you smell is carbon monoxide from the zillions of cars, buses and you name it, and cigarette smoke. Our clothes smelled horrible by dinner time and we all had to shower and put more clean clothes on before eating. The fur-girls were so nasty by the time we got home that it took three baths each to get them clean. I wanted to take pictures of the girls but there was no nice area and we didn't take them on the strip. Prices on food and all has gone up so much it's starting to be a rich mans sin city. We were there 7 years ago and couldn't believe how inexpensive food and shopping was. HA, now you can't even buy a simple neck scarf under $40.00, and a tiny bottle of water for $2.00 and up. Since the experience was so bad, I wasn't going to share the trip with anyone, but I thought long and hard and decided to let everyone know what they will find if they go there. |

| Well, I don't think Vegas is known to be a nice quiet, clean resort town. Its called sin city for a reason! Personally, I love Vegas, but I'm a smoker and a gambler, so you wouldn't be able to stand being around me!

| WE go almost every yr. WE have watched the prices go up and up! But, we always have a great time. We are actually going on 3/6. We went a couple of weeks after 9/11 and prices were much lower. NO one was travelling. Last spring, I took my husband to tour Napa/Sonoma and we swung by Vegas on our way home. We definately spent a lot of money. We have already spent over 2K and we havent even left yet! My stepdaughter is turning 18 and that is what she wanted to do. Every year she asked us...when can i go with you? Vegas used to be an affordable get away. Now I can think of maybe a few other places to go if I am spending that kinda money |

| Vegas is interesting - I often hear strong reactions one way or the other - people hate it or love it. I think that is so interesting. I have a friend who visited last year, stayed in a small hotel off the strip and she hated it. My cousin went a couple of weeks ago and she hated it. My daughter and her husband went in January, stayed in the Venetian and they loved it. I haven't been for about 8 years, so I'm sure it has changed a lot, but I loved it the last time I went. Go Figure Vegas is a "toss up"

| Wow, sorry to hear about your experience. Hubby and I went there 9 1/2 yrs ago and it was really nice and surprisingly clean. We were just talking about going away for a few days for the first time w/out our kids and thought Vegas would be a good choice. Thanks for the tips. We will be going somewhere else now!

| Our oldest just got married there 2-15-08. We stayed at the Golden Nugget, which is on Fremont Street. (no furbutt with us for this trip. ) It was BEAUTIFUL The hotel/casino was very clean but like you said very smokey! We aren't smokers and it was hard on us to smell like smoke all the time. My husband got the flu right after we got back and still hasn't recovered. When we went out of the hotel at night (on fremont street) to all the other casinos around us...it was, well um...scary, I thought. A lot of "rough" looking people. We went to the strip Sat evening and saw a show at Harrah's and walked the strip for awhile! Amazing how many people. It was wall to wall or I should say shoulder to shoulder. We took a cab from our hotel back to the airport sunday am. The cab driver told us there are 10 to 12 murders every year in Las Vegas....and half of the people murdered are Taxi cab drivers.! Never the less, the wedding was BEAUTIFUL and so was the Wedding site! We were busy with wedding, family and friends and had a wonderful time!

| I really think it depends on where you stay. It definitely is a unique place and I can see how people could dislike it. Especially if you HATE smoke. I am not a smoker (anymore) and it is amazing how quickly your clothes start to reek. my husband and I only go every few years.

| The day after we got there I read in the paper where a 16 year old boy was shot and killed in Vegas walking home from school. Yes, there are many, many strange and scary looking people milling about and so many pick-pockets that you have to hold tight to everything. Lana, when we went to Laughlin a few years back there were two motorcycle gangs having a rumble and some were killed. One of the gangs were the hells angels. They live the desert life and raise hell. My husbands family stayed at the Imperial Palace and it was just nasty. The air system just can't handle all the smoke and the ceilings are too low. It's a very old building that's slated to be torn down. Avoid this building people. I just saw this on the news too: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23405226/from/ET Granted the big fancy hotels on the strip are beautiful inside, and it's masks what's really going on outside. |

| I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with Las Vegas. I happen to love it there. My son lives out there now, in a very nice apartment complex. The area around his complex is really safe also. Which to me as his mom, makes me feel good. To me their are some very nice area's of L.Vegas and the surrounding towns. Like Red Rock Canyon in Summerlin, The Hoover Damm, but you do need a car to drive to those places. Before he moved out there, we always stayed @ the Mirage on the strip. I really liked that hotel and the area around the hotel was really nice. Although I do agree there are some hotels in L.Vegas that they really need to implode/tear down. I also agree about Fremont street though. Their light show is something to see, but the area directly off Fremont Street, is not good. There are a lot of nice mid priced restaurants off the strip also. But there again, you would need a car to get to them. I think any big city has their share of problems. Again, I'm sorry you felt that way about L.Vegas.

| We rented an SUV and drove to Vegas so the dogs could come along. We took my husbands family to Hoover Dam. The last time we were there they didn't have the parking garage. That was a plus, and the face lift and new souviner store was nice, but the snack bar hadn't changed. The prices were horrible. $3.50 for a small coke and $6.00 for a plain hot dog. They put in a new little stand that sold soft swirl and I got one that was really sour. When I took it back (after only one lick) the man argued with me that no one else has complained. There were 4 people that were with a tour group who had just bought a soft swirl and when they tasted theirs, they said theirs was sour too and got their money back. The man was so mad at everyone, what a jerk. Next, I didn't want to walk across the dam (seen it before) so I sat alone at the outdoor patio with my expensive coke and magazine. Some man stood by the railing stairing at me and two REALLY BIG (buff) guys saw this and kept an eye on him. When the guy moved closer to me and kept stairing, I was one second away from going over to sit with those two Hulks when one said loudly...."what is he looking at" and the weird looking dude went into the gift shop. My husband had just come back to be with me and missed this by seconds. The big guys told my husband to stay with me because of what they saw. I then pointed out the wierd guy to him when he came out of the gift shop. I'm telling you, it was not a good time for us all the way around! Nope, I'll stay out of the desert from now on. Yes, I do know there is crime everywhere, but some places more than others and getting worse. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | With all due respect, there's a thing about generalized statements regarding "black people", "women"...or, in my case those living the "desert life" (whatever that means)....they usually end up offending people. I know you probably didn't mean to offend, but there sure were a lot of judgmental statements in there about the "desert life" etcetera. I can assure you that we're not all a bunch of trashtastic hell raisin' crazies over here. Come to Phoenix and sit by my pool, and I promise you - I won't be serving you a sour soft serve or Malt Liquor. And, I even bet I could show you one of the most gracious times of your life in Vegas - it all depends on where you go and how you do it. All big cities (including Madrid, btw, as I recall when I was there) have crime and hoodlums and dirt and grime - as well as elegance and grace and charm and culture - and I just love the whole MESS of it. I will tell ya though - I hated Vegas the first time I went; it took a second time for me to *get* - and then I had a grand time!

| First off, THANK YOU for your review of that place, I'd been dying to go but now I know that I'd hate it there I'm sorry that it was so terrible, what a waste of time and money Anyone know how Reno is? I don't care for Atlantic City at ALL, it's so run down. Well at least it was the last time I was there, about 17 years ago Unless they've fixed it up, it's surely worse by now I hope your next trip is more pleasant!
