| Underactive Thyroid I just found out that my thyroid/metabolism is underactive and I was prescribed Synthroid. Has anyone taken this medicine and actually lost weight??? I read that it helps some of the other symptoms, but not with weight loss. ( that figures!!)

| I have underactive thyroid/hashimotos disease and am currently on Synthroid. When you are underactive you are more likely to gain weight rather than lose. It has helped with my constant fatigue though, it's even noticeable if I don't take it for one day.

| I have an overactive throid, Graves Disease, and I am a type 1 diabetic- take 5-6 shots a day!I can't stop losing weight. 4 years ago was overweight- since becoming diabetic I have lost close to 80lbs! underactive does not work enought to burn weight off- over burns off to much! I think if you get it controled right, you could lose weight- talk to your Doctor if you want to lose weight- see if he can get you help through a med. progran! You insurance might help pay for it, because of your throid condition!

| In my case I didn't gain alot of weight before I was diagnosed, since then I have actually gained a few more pounds but more from eating habits and lack of exercise.
