| I've been a victim of Identity Theft!! When i got home from work today i had some mail to open, one was a letter from my mail order catalogue, someone had tried to make some expensive purchases in my name! it appears they have somehow got into my email account and read a catalogue email i had sitting in my inbox and then asked for my catalogue to send 'me' a password reminder for my account, then logged into the account as me and ordered nearly £1500 worth of goods! I have rang them and sorted it all out....and i have been changing my passwords on EVERYTHING just to make sure...I have no idea how this has happened! I have given myself a headache stressing over it!

| Oh my! Was this e-mail at a free service like Yahoo or was it e-mail that had been downloaded to your computer, like Outlook Express? |

| It's a Hotmail account. I have gone through all my emails to see what other information they could have got hold of...They have my name, address, phone number...all the information i had in my mail order account...scary or what. I have had a fraud prevention service put a 'red flag' on our address...basically to make it difficult for anyone trying to get credit in my name and address.

| This is scary, I would suggest you also change all your passwords on all of your accounts. Including your bank account, and run a good anti virus and worm detection to make sure someone hasn't put a key logger on your computer. Because if they have then every word you type they log it and can get all of your passwords. I have an experience with a VERY well known hacker and its CRAZY the things they can do. I do not log into anything that is a pop up. I make sure its the actual web site that I typed in, always just to be careful! I hope this all gets sorted out. |

| It was a good idea to put a red flat on your address, I would also let the credit companies know...a few months ago I got my purse stolen and alerted the credit companies...well, I just recently (yesterday) tried to open a checking account online because I couldn't get in to the bank...well they denied me because of the red flat! Needless to say, I'M sooo pleased with that!! I'll go in this weekend to open the account but it's nice to have that security there...Good luck and I hope everything turns out well! Tracy

Therapy Dog Donating Member | That is so scary and I never thought of identity theft until all these government computers have been stolen with everyone's social security numbers. I just subscribed to Lifelock and it only costs $10 a month and for me it was worth it - if something should happen they do all the legwork and you are insured up to $1M. They have a great commercial out with the CEO giving out his real SS# and I even saw TV reporters doing a story on this company and trying to use his SS# and they couldn't use it to open up any accounts, etc. lifelock.com

| I dont know if it eliminates password stealing , but i use RoboForm to protect my passwords. Of course Firewall. Antivirus and SpySweeper all are paid versions. But once in a while i use some other onces , just in case. Sorry you are going through this, that would drive me nuts knowing someone invated my pc. Hope you get it squared away !
