| What is the Longest years you've know a dog to live My parents had a little black dog named buddy. (she's actually a girl, but they didnt know it for a few weeks into having her so they let her keep the name since she new it...hahaha) Well they just had to put her to sleep a couple of weeks ago. She was 23 years old. She was a mixed breed..they got her when she was just a tiny puppy from the shelter. She looks like a cockerspaniel and maybe a poodle, but she has longer legs. I felt sooo very bad for my parents it was so hard, but she just got to the point where she couldnt move, walk, her eyes were bad. up until this year she was still running, playing, catching a frisbee and loved her tennis balls. She went down hill very fast after having what the vet thought was a stoke. They had to have her put to sleep. She was a wonderful little friend to all. I was telling Connie about this and she said it would be a interesting thread. She'd never heard of a dog living that long. I looked it up on the internet and found one dog lived to be 29 ( austrialian shepard) |

| Wow Denise, 23yrs is a long time. Your parents were very fortunate to have her that long. We had a shepard mix who lived to be 17yrs and a terrier mix who lived to be 16yrs. I had to put both down. Devestating thing to do. I cried for weeks each time. You know it's the thing to do when the time comes but your left with such guilt that you had to do it. To be honest I pray when it's Buddy's time he just goes in his sleep because I can't imagine ever having to do this to him. I'll never survive it. |

| Our friends had a little black mixed breed that lived to 20 and my boss has an 18 yr old yellow lab that is not doing well right now. That's amazing, 23. It's the longest that I have ever heard about.

I will say a lil prayer for your parents. That is a long time for a dog to live. What great memories they must have. I'm sure it was devastating for them to have to make that decision. My parents pug is named Buddy |

| A couple years ago I went in to get the dogs their license. There was another person there that was getting a license for their dog. It was a cocker spaniel and it was 21 years ago and the guy said she was still going strong. I am sorry about your parents dog. It sounds like she had a great life to live to be that old.
