Default Anyone have a funny moving story ?

I NEED ONE BAD ! I've been really missing my husband during all this packing and thought I'd share what I just did in hopes someone has one to top it.

I was going to hold off to disconnect my computer & stuff the night before I move - maybe even that morning - but thought today I'd finally unconnect my husbands computer things. He was the electrical one in the house - I can do simple stuff but forget the routers and adapter crap - I just want to plug in and have it WORK

Since he died I've had a really hard time doing stuff like this - I only JUST YESTERDAY packed up all his clothes to donate (What man has 21 bags of clothes ??) so here I am today trying to do last minute stuff

Well - I unhooked what I THOUGHT was the scanner and guess what - ALL MY LIGHTS went off. No computer - no phone - no NOTHIN ! I can't BE without my phone this close to moving day.

I started backtracking .....

I have absolutely no idea why I have 2 hundred freakin wires behind my computer so I just figured I'd start un-plugging and plugging.

Nothing worked.

Well - being the computer genius I am - I unplugged my Modem wires and hooked them up to another outlet and guess what ?? IT WORKED !!

problem is - I now have my internet & digital phone RUNNING THRU MY BATHROOM

Am I good or WHAT ???

ok - that's my moving story for the day - anyone have a good one ? I'm exhausted and could use a good laugh

LOL...oh my goodness! I truly don't know how I would do it without my son or husband to do all the computer, TV and heavy lifting stuff! We just moved in May, and I had everything packed and organized..they just had to do the moving part.

My biggest quandry was WHEN to take the Yorkies. We put them in the basement bedroom in the old house (which they never, ever went in..it was a spooky basement) while we were moving all the stuff out of the main house, went to the new house 30 miles away and moved everything in, then I went back to get them. Our thinking was that nobody would get stepped on or run outside and get lost this way.

When I returned to the old house to collect my precious babies, they had completely ripped up the carpet in front of the door clawing at it and completely distressed at being left in the spooky basement bedroom with all the commotion going on upstairs. I was like, "man, all this time we lived here and they never tore anything up until the last day!!"

Thankfully we own the house and rented it out and downstairs is used for storage so it wasn't that big of a deal, but I really felt bad that they were so freaked out that they did that. Poor babies were beside themselves when I finally came to get them.

i don't have any moving stories but I live alone and have many stories of trying to do things by myself that would normally require 2 people!
Moving men (little plastic things that go under heavy furniture) are WONDERFUL!!
I'm know this is sad for you, but try to embrace this new beginning. We're all here for you.

You rock, V!

Well... not sure how humorous you will find this but the saying... You might be a Redneck comes to mind......

I moved a while back in August when it was 110 and oh so very humid. I was having trouble getting help moving and since I bought the house next door there wasnt a lot of packing up.

So picture this if you will......

I have an old wooden wagon that I would fill up and move next door. Now.... the old house had a HUGE porch with steps, now you might ask "how did she get that wagon down those steps".... welll..... I found an old thick glass door (still not sure what its from) and rigged up a ramp. So in my shorts that I had no business wearing and t shirt .. remember its 110.... I would pull my lil red wagon down my glass ramp moving stuff over!!!!

LOL !! THANK YOU !! I can so relate !! Poor babies !! It was safer for them to be there but try telling THEM that right ???

to add to my total computer/phone failure - after I finally rigged my power cord thru the bathroom and finished cussing myself out for even touching all this - one of the girls must have been really upset & left me a message.... only I didn't see it.

little did I know I was tracking a poop all the way thru the house just now - I kept smelling something and looking around for it - and it was ME (well - not me - my shoe)

My girls are going to stay with my mom and dad for the day - I have to race over there at 7 am and get back to my house (during rush hour) to meet the movers - who happen to be our old flooring installers so I'm going to hold my breath and HOPE they show up on time - you know how those guys can be

I've never moved all alone before. Actually I've never lived totally alone before .....Going from a 3 bedroom/2 car garage to a little one bdrm apartment has been the hardest work I've ever done in my life - The girls are so upside down I feel really bad for them - I'll hate leaving them tommorrow to go to work since the house is practically all in boxes now.

oh yes, the joys of living alone!! I live alone and have for 2 years! Its fun most of the time but sometimes its very trying! I woke up one day in Nov (the 18th, the day before my bday) and got up made coffee, had a whole day planned out... was standing at the counter drinking my coffee when something suddenly didnt seem RIGHT! Then I realized the water was running without stopping and I JUST KNEW before I even SAW, my hot water tank let go and my basement was FLOODED!!! So i went down and could not figure out how to turn off the water! Called every male I could think of, finally got in touch with my brother who helped me to figure out where the water shut off was (he lives in NM - it was 6am his time haha)

then I had to have my grandfather come over with a pump and my father to take me to the store to get a new tank and oohhhh man oh man..........I had to listen to my grandfather all day saying how a single woman should not own her own house!!! HAHA (hes old school) but I did have 2 men jumping in to help me so I guess its ok that I own my own house! (dad and grandad haha)

I had to use EVERY towel that I own to sop up the carpet downstairs while my grandfather pumped out water! OH WHAT a mess! But looking back and how panicked I was then, makes me laugh!!!! HAHA

Wires???? Thats Nothing NOW!!!! LOL (kidding)

I think I still have too much - I just looked and have 20 boxes packed PLUS furniture - this all to go into a one bedroom ? I have a feeling I'll be living in a maze of boxes for a while - I'll be lucky to find my bed

Yes, boxes galore! The best piece of advice I can give is to put them in their respective places (kitchen boxes in kitchen, etc) then just take it one box at a time. One thing I found is that I moved quite a bit of things I didn't want/need, so I had a big box labeled "garage sale/donation". Unfortunately there are about 10 garage sale boxes in my stinkin' garage waiting for the Garage sale..hehe

ah, bless your heart. I'm so sorry this is so hard for you.

ok...I have a moving story to really get a laugh out of you. OH GOSH I can't believe I am sharing this with you ladies but it's all because I luv ya V

ok...so, I was single for a LONG time. let me just start out by saying that and one of my close friends is involved with "Surprise Parties". those are "girl" parties. or "sex toy" parties as some will call them well, needless to say, I ended up with a few "toys". (I hope there are no kids reading this ) Well, my best friend, who is a guy...was coming to help me put a bed together. I had NO tool other than the hammer I bought so I could hang things up so he came over to help me. I was joking around with him because this was a new wrought iron bed and I said "sweet...now I will have a place to hang these.." and I pulled out some fuzzy hand cuffs. He was in stitches laughing. I tried convincing him that I had never used them but had them because my friend gave them to me and I thought they were funny. he didn't buy it...but I WAS being honest Well, he was playing around with them and I snatched them up and said "ok, enough goofing off, time to get this bed done!!" so I took the handcuffs and threw them in the drawer to my night stand. suddenly we heard "Bbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"

yep...throwing those in there triggered a vibrating sound LOL

I was mortified and was trying to find it and turn it off!!!! I was SOOOOOO embarrassed. I had no idea what to say. neither of us did. I just walked out of the room and went and got something to drink LOL

a few days later, he was coming over to move something else into the house for me and he came to get my key from me at work. he said "nothing is going to start vibrating will it???" again..I was mortified. This was the first mentioning of the "incident". LOL now, it is a common joke among me and my friends...even tho it was several years ago LOL

ok....now I'm embarrassed again

Ok, I've got a good one. When I first moved out of my parents house...omg, it was such a big move for me...anyways, I had everything set up beautifully...without the help of my dad, who used to do everything for me. I had bought a new tv and decided to put up a shelf to put it on. (I watched too much HGTV) I had no idea about studs...can you see where this is going? So, I get the shelf up and put the tv on, plug it in and stand back to admire my handiwork.

In slow-motion I watched the entire wall break!!!!! My shelf, my new tv and the wall sat on the floor in a heap of dust and debris. The hole in the wall was...oh, lets see....2 feet by 2 feet??

I still get teased...the phone call home to my dad was a mess of incoherant tears and choking on drywall dust.

Anyways, thats my little story. When my dad came over to help me fix my boo-boo he took me over to Home Depot and bought me a tool box (with a can of purple spray paint) and picked out all the tools that I would need for future "home improvement projects" and he showed me how to use each tool. The most important tool was this crazy device called a "stud finder". And no, it did not help me find a man.

Redvet...you are in my thoughts. I cant even begin to imagine your loss. But I bet he's smiling down at you believing in every move you make!
