| On the freeway today I saw a dead dog who had evidently been hit by a vehicle. It was so sad. A medium-sized shorthaired white dog - I was going by at like 55 or so, but I think it had a collar on. I was sick about it. I called 911 right away, but they already knew and were trying to get someone there . After I hung up the phone, I wish I had asked if they check for microchips after picking up an animal, so the owners could be notified. Does anyone know anything about how police or the city might try to let owners know? It just saddens me that someone may never know what happened to their dear dog. Especially it could be an elderly person without the resources to track their dog down.

| 911 all they do is call ACO (animal control) and they go and pick it up. I don't think ACO contacts the owners.. Much less check for micro chips. |

This is still bothering me so much, I might call again tomorrow and ask some questions. I probably should have called them today.

| It may have gotten out some way but I know here we see more and more dogs running loose. Its sad it see one that has been hit but about 3yrs. ago I saw a little toy poodle actually hit. I had never seen one get run over and that site is something I will never get over. The little thing was screaming and trying to get up and finally was dead in just a few seconds. I cried all the way home and was shaking until I thought I would never stop. I wish they would make the laws so stiff that there would be something that could be done. People would just not admit to owning the dog though if they knew they were going to get a fine. Its sad and I don't know what it will take. Some people don't care if they hit them or not, after all IT'S JUST A DOG. That infurates me when I hear that. |

Donating YT 11K Club Member | That is really sad. I always see dead animals on the highway when we are going to my brother's house upstate but sometimes we pass them too fast to see what they are, i know i have seen some dead dogs in the middle before, just lying there. It's soo so sad and just makes me think of mine and what I would do, and wonder if they had owners

| If I see a dead dog I will stop and see if it has a collar with ID, if it does I call the owner. I am an animal control officer if I pick one up in the county I work at we check for ID and microchip and check our lost reports. And if it is near another county we call the other facility. I do not know how other counties/states handle those types of situations.
