| OMG! So many home burglaries in my neighborhood!! OMG....check out the email that I rec'd regarding all the homes that were broken into yesterday in or around my neighborhood. See below in red!! The burglaries are all happening during the day!!!! We only set our alarm at night because we have a motion detector and Buddy will set it off. Due to all the break ins DURING THE DAY, I need to be able to set my alarm during the day when I am away. Does anyone know if there is a security system that has a motion detector that does not pick up pets? Charlotte Police Department Update on Recent Break-Ins All Residents of Ballantyne Country Club, Please see below an update from Peter Grant of Charlotte Police Department regarding the recent burglaries. It seems there were quite a few yesterday (not all of which were within BCC), all with the same characteristics. Please remember, if you do see a break-in in progress, the first call is ALWAYS to 911. Sincerely, Michael Laub - BRPOA ********************************** We recently had another rash of house break-ins where the front doors are being kicked in. All of these are occurring between the hours of 9am and 12pm. The suspects will generally knock on the door first to see if anyone is at home. If someone is at home they will act like a magazine salesman. If no one is at home they will knock a few more times just to make sure no one is home and then kick the door in. They are not trying to catch people while they are there, their main intent is to ensure that no one is at home before forcing their way in. The suspect information we obtained yesterday was a burgundy GMC or Chevy Blazer type vehicle with possible West Virginia tags occupied by three black males. They are focusing on credit cards, jewelry, playstations, Wii's, DVD's, CD's, flat screen TV's, computers (mostly laptops), GPS units, and I-POD's. If they are able to get a credit card they will attempt to use it within an hour or two of obtaining them, usually at a gas station close by. Please keep an eye on your neighbor's house if they are out of town. Call 911 if you see anything suspicious. We have several reports where a neighbor has seen the suspects coming and going out of a house, but did not call 911 to report it. They do not stay in the neighborhood long, of the five houses they hit yesterday, 1/2/08, only 2 were in the same neighborhood. So they were in 4 separate neighborhoods in about a 2 hour span. Officer Peter Grant - CMPD pgrant@cmpd.org

| Maybe you can call your alarm company for suggestions? Are the alarm signs visible on the outside of your house? Maybe you can have them raise the level of the motion detector to above his height? We had a home invasion about 4 years ago, and that was long before we got Gizmo. The police said our house was chosen because we didnt have an alarm system and most of the other houses on our block did. They said that even a sign in the yard is a deterent. We have an alarm system now, but only set it when we are away. When we are away and Gizmo is home alone, we confine him to an area of the house with no motion detectors. I would think the alarm company would have some good suggestions. That is scary.

| oh that is truly sooo scary . . . . I guess you can confine him to say the laundry room so he won't be triggering the motion detector alarm . . . unless of course your laundry has a monitor - well I think it can be turned off. I never turn mine off but I do have so many stickers outside I think it is deterent enough |

I do have alarm signs all around the outside of our house which I hope would help. We also have security video cameras on the exterior of our house ....they are not currently working but a burglar would not know that!!!! I think I will call our security company to see what my options are to "juice" up our current system. I really want the motion detector to work without detecting Buddy.

We had ADT but we only were able to set the perimeter alarm everytime we left for fear if we set the whole thing, the motion of all our pets setting it off. But when we switched to Monitronics they said "fear not, you should be getting the full benefit of your alarm system"...etc., and said ours will not be set off by the animals..... and for the past 2 years, it hasn't. So perhaps they just need to have them re-adjust it or try Monitronics. But even still, you should be able to just set your perimeter alarm when you leave (doors). Thats better than nothing. | |

| Our system has the option of arming only the exterior, which is the setting I use because of all the animals roaming around when I am not home.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | We have ADT and it has motion in our great room - and the guy installed it to "bypass" pet motion - I don't know how. Maybe anything under 2 feet or something is ignored?

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | That just SUCKS and you must be a nervous wreck - I hope all your neighbors are looking out for each other - those newsletters are great for letting people know what's happening - My parents had someone come TO their door doing something similar and my poor mom had no idea they were probably scoping out the house - STAY SAFE and good luck ! |

| Our experience was pretty bizarre. It happened during the day when no one was at home. One of our new neighbors saw them and called the police, but they took off before the police got there. (Actually, I even arrived before the police did! ) Anyway, they broke in through a window in the back of the house. They took the TV and most of our electronic equipment, a laptop, musical equipment including a keyboard and electric guitar, etc... Another TV from a guest room was found by the back door. Here's the weird part...They took a half empty bottle of tequilla rose out of the fridge and left everything in the liquor cabinet including a bottle of Patron and a bottle of Crown. They also took a 24 pack of Coke, but left a 24 pack of Dr. Pepper. The house was also in shambles..glass everywhere, all of the things dumped out of drawers, etc... A lot of my underwear and lingerie was scattered all over the house. (Ewww) and the phones were all taken (landlines). I didn't understand the phone thing until later...they were cheap phones...not much resale value. I wish I had known much earlier, but they probably took the phones to cover up caller ID. The thought is that they called to see if anyone was home first. By the time we checked with the caller ID, too much time had passed to trace anything. I think the thing that upset me the most was the underwear. I couldn't even think about keeping any of it, so I threw it all away. (Shudders) I had a black bra that a police officer actually picked up off the floor and looked at. Totally humiliating. lol! Anyway, that's when we got the alarm system. I am just thankful no one got hurt.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Oh man Judy - that's horrible and sounds like kids but still not any less scary. I'm so glad it wasn't worse - (like you being home when they broke in) I just hate stories like this - It's happening way too much these days. |

| We have a system that items can be turned off individually......... for instance, if I am home and want to go out on the patio, I can have the security system on everywhere except to the patio door. We also have motion sensors that work while the Yorkies are in the house. We have never had any problems with it at all. Buddy-licious, You can PM me if you want to know more.

| Thanks guys for all the help. I have been on different websites viewing the different options that security companies offer. Hopefully, I can work something out. I really don't care as much about door and window sensors because all burglars know how to get around those but no burglars can get around the motion detectors. Plus I have 12 exterior doors on the main level which makes it expensive to sensor all those doors.
