My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | Need help with Routers and Speed issues!!!!! Router is taking my speed away??? We got PS3 for xmas and have been trying to play COD4 online. Problem is are internet speed. So I upgraded to the platinum plan. We have Satellite Internet thru Dish Network. I also have a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router hooked up to use wirelessly. Well my speed even after the upgrade was way low. They had me unhook the router and hook my desktop up right to the interent and there was my speed!!! This router is whats taking my speed away real bad!!! If I got a different router would it make a difference? The tech told me she uses a Netgear and doesn't lose her speed at all and she has the satelite serive too. Can anyone help! We are not able to play Call of Duty 3 online now. |

| My hubby is a nerd an also has a PS3 thingy. He says that the COD is slow because many people are trying to get on it due to the christmas joys of giving. Also, he wants to know if your internet is working ( he is working out right now, so he will be available in about 20 minutes)

| Ok, He says: It shouldn't be the router, the router is a good brand and doubt it is that. Make sure is it set to G not B. Also, is anyone else doing anything else on-line at the same time, cause that would slow it down? It could just be too far from the PS3, microwaves and some wireless phones may interfere with it

| I was about to say...Belkin is one of the top routers out there! And our tech person also told us about cordless phones, etc interferring sometimes. We got the "N" router - for WiFi outside the house.... I hope you can figure it out!

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Netgear is definitely better. We had some degraded service and switched and we are good to go. We are running three pcs off of it and also two xbox 360's simultaneously and no problems. I will only see a lower speed if I am persay sending big files while they are playing. We got the Netgear becuase a friend of ours and fellow gamer with hubby is an IT guy and he put us on to it. If you want I can send you the model we have. We got it at www.newegg.com for cheaper than the other spots.

The tec had me do a test with the router connected and then disconnected. Wtih it connected my speed was half the speed. With the router NOT connected - the speed was the speed I'm paying for. How do I make sure its set to G and not B ??? | |

| LINKSYS is a great and out here vs Netgear its rated better....don't know how true it is but what I DO know is that LINSYS is "user friendly" unlike Netgear which you have to have some computer knowledge to get it up and running.
