Donating YT 7000 Club Member | What do you think... is a reasonable price for a babysitter to charge? I thought I'd post this here, cause I know a lot of you have kids so you probably hire a babysitter from time to time. I want to start babysitting, and I really have no clue what to charge, so any suggestions would be appreciated.

| honestly it all depends on how many kids, what hours and what you are expected to do (take them to school etc) I have 3 kids and they are all in school so they need to be taken and picked up and watched until I get home from work at 4:30. The sitter would prepare a snack for them and assist with hw. I found some people that wanted as much as 250 a week, and the lowest was 175. I think 175 is good, being that they arent watching the children all day its only 1 hour and 30 mins a day. I guess it all depends lol

| $5 per hour for 1 child $2.50 per hour for every child after that 1=$5.00 2=$7.50 3=$10.00 if it is an easy sitting job (the kids are in bed most of the time..... maybe a little bit less) You seem like a really responsible person, Megan. You would be worth EVERY penny.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | ^Oh my gosh! That actually surprises me (175) for about an hour a day! I was thinking like...50 a week lol. I think that those prices listed above are pretty good. hmm... I'm not really expieranced with babysitting (I've only ever done it for my family, who doesn't pay), so I don't want to push the money issue, because I'll be lucky if anyone would even hire me with such little expierance.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Back when my kids were young I hardly used babysitters because I didn't trust just anyone with my kids - but when I found one who came highly recommended I doubled what she was asking and she was just awesome - She was the only babysitter I would use and she was paid very well for it. so Megan - set your own price - Maybe do a test run and charge the going rate but if they want to use you on a regular basis then up the fee a little so you'll have a good hourly rate. When they meet you they'll realize what a gem you are. Many parents feel it's very worth it to find someone trustworthy & will pay for that trust. PS - find out what minimum wage is in your state and add a few dollars to it - you don't want to go under Min Wage - that's just not worth it

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i used to babysit when i was your age and i charged 8-10 dollars an hour depending on how long. i only watched one kid at a time and they were usually under the age of 6. sometimes when i was home from college i'd watch a friends baby all day when she was at work and she gave me $100 for the day.

I have not paid a sitter in years though....our son goes every where we go or he goes to a friends house while we are out. Good luck with your babysitting ventures!!!

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | so you'd only get $4 for watching a kid while someone went out to eat for 2 hours? that's insane.

Yep, but think about it.. shes an older lady not out to make money. She doesn't work so shes at home anyways.. so why not watch kids instead of sitting at home being bored?? She usually has atleast 5 there all the time.. then she gets a few older ones once school gets out. I would do the same if I was her | |
