| What is reflux? I think Im having reflux or possibly indigestion? Not really sure as this is all new to me and Im pretty sure its because Im pregnant as I hear this is really common and my books say that is really common but Im not really sure if thats what I have and if so I still dont really know how to control it or what causes it (sorry for the really long run on sentence there). I dont go to the doctor again until next week so I thought I'd ask about it on here. Im not trying to gross anyone out, but I keep throwing up in my mouth, especially at night and it burns in my throat and esophagus area. Is this reflux? or is this indigestion? or something else altogether? and what foods should I steer clear of? Please dont say cajun hot wings because Im craving them! lol

| Aww Shana the wonderful woes of pregnancy. I've had acid reflux when i was younger and it's not fun at all.. During pregnancy everything is so relaxed that your food tends to go back up especially at night when it's most relaxed. They actually do say to steer clear of spicy/acidic things that can make it worse. I believe you can take Tums, but since your in your 3rd trimester i'm not sure though, so you'd have to ask your ob/gyn just to be on the safe side. My Hubby also has reflux too at night, his food will go back up while he's sleeping and it basically suffocates because it was so sudden! try to sleep on a pillow if you can and elevate your head and try not to eat so close before bedtime (if that's possible during your pregnancy, cause i know for me it's not! lol).. i hope you feel better! |

| Acid Reflux sounds just like that... burning.. like heart burn... it is important to keep food in your stomach at all times if you can.. stay away from acidic foods. But i just had my gallbladder out this summer and the surgoen said that MOST people come in when they are pregnant and think they have acid reflux and it ends up being a gallbladder and the pregnancy is what sparks the problems. So if after you have had the precious little babe and you still have problems you might want to go see a doctor about it. Gallbladder attacks happen after you eat and for me felt like burning, but for others can feel like you are having a heart attack... lol.. not to scare you... i hope it is just acid reflux because the baby is pushing up on everything! |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yup, that's GERD - gastro-esophogeal reflux! It's from all the add'l pressure in your abdomen - and the "pressing". No hot wings for you, young lady! Stay away from caffeine, spicy foods, soda, anything bubbly. You could try, after speaking to your doc, Maalox or something similar to help with tummy acid. No fun!

| Ok I have had reflux and it may not necessarily be because your pregnant but I'm sure it doesn't help matters. So if you are eating something, especially something acidic, then you lay down or go to sleep after, the acid creeps up into your esophagus and then into your throat, making you feel like you are throwing up in your mouth. After you eat something, you need to stay upright for at least 2 hours, to give your body a chance to digest. Do not eat anything withint 3 hours of bedtime. What helps me a lot is Ginger, either in tea form, or eating it raw or taking herbal capsules. There's something about Ginger that kills that bile/acid that is caused by certain foods, and it's supposed to be very good for pregnancy, in terms of keeping nausea down. The following foods are very acidic and you should stay away from them if you know you are going to sleep, lay down or take a nap shortly after: Milk Ground beef Beef Chocolate Peppermint Fried and fatty foods Tomato products Foods and drinks that contain caffeine Alcoholic beverages Onions Garlic Mustard Certain spices Vinegar Carbonated beverages (such as soda) Citrus fruits and juices Cakes Certain sweets Yoghurt

| I know how you feel... I'm suffering SO bad from the same thing! I'm now using 6 pillows at night to keep myself upright because when I lay flat I'm constantly getting it... it's a nightmare and nothing really seems to help that much! Hope you have better luck than I am.
