| Off Topic.. Anyone own Shih Tzu's? Ok.. this is a bit off topic.. but.. I have a friend.. that's always trying to have competition with me.. from both of us losing weight and who could keep it off the longest.. to who's been with their boyfriend the longest.. and now it's.. who's more knowledgable on doggies.. .. and i'm sooo sick of it.. When I got my first doggie Oreo, she'd always tell me her 5 shih tzu's were sooo cute and well behaved. Whatever lol.. she keeps her dogs outside .. and then she told me like two weeks ago.. that she lost all her dogs because they ran away.. (i was thinking in my head.. i would've ran away a long time ago..) And that she heard I got Cloey (my maltese).. and she wanted one. When I heard this I was outraged and gave it to her. I told her about how Maltese's are white and they need a lot of attention and cannot.. i repeat cannot be left outside like her other Shih Tzu's were. I told her how much responsibility it takes to own a dog.. and a small breed at that. In my opinion, should not be left outside to be an outdoor dog at all. Mind you when her two dogs were pregnant.. the whole litter died because of extreme cold (she left them outside).. So.. She didn't get a Maltese.. but she got another puppy Shih Tzu.. that was 7 weeks old when she got him (i had told her he was too young to be away from momma.. but she was like ).. I've gave her some advice as to what kind of dog foods are good for small breeds.. not the Wal-Mart brand dog foods that she loves to buy (adult dog food for her puppy!! AHHH OMG!).. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a great Shih Tzu forum to help this little lady become more knowledgable about the breed.. either I will read up on it and teach her.. or something! but i do not for the life of me want that small puppy to be an outdoors dog! so someone please help! thanks in advance.. sorry if i don't make any sense.. |

| Wow! and you call this girl a friend She sounds like a witch. Hopefully you can find her some good information. Don't you just LOVE copycats? Ugh. When I first read this thread title, I was thinking "oh no Deyna. I know you did not get a puppy." LOL. God bless you for keeping up with those three! I can barely keep up with one. You must be a patient "little lady" as you put it Grab her Shi Tzus and whip them into shape! Put them through COG (cloey, oreo, ginger) training camp. I'm sure your little pooches can teach hers a thing or two!

| That is a sad story! I cannot believe that your friend left her dogs outside and let the puppies die! Now she has a new puppy!?! Some people just shouldn't have dogs. Thank goodness that you are there to help her so that his new puppy can be treated right! I do not know anything about shih tzus. Sorry! |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | some people dont need dogs heres one site dont know if its good or not http://disc.server.com/Indices/148550.html heres alittle info http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/shihtzu.htm Coat: Is longhaired and can be a variety of colors including black, red, beige, and sometimes white. Overview: The silky Shih Tzu is sweet and playful. He's also got plenty of spunk. He's not afraid to stand up for himself, though he usually gets along nicely with strangers and other animals. The Shih Tzu seems especially to dislike hot weather. The coat of the Shih Tzu needs daily grooming. Character: The Shih Tzu is an independent breed that is intelligent, lovable, affectionate, sociable, and cheerful. It is not as outgoing as most breeds. It seldom barks. Temperament: This dog always behaves with dignity, and gets along with other household pets and children. Care: A lot of grooming is required. To prevent tangles, the coat must be combed everyday. It is necessary to provide a hair bow or something similar to keep the hair out of the dog's eyes. Special eyedrops must be applied to keep the eyes clean. The ear passages must be cleaned regularly as well. To keep the coat in good condition, it is necessary to take the dog to a professional groomer every two months to be clipped. Training: This breed's somewhat obstinate nature makes consistency essential in the training process. Activity: Shih Tzus are happy with short walks. heres another board http://b4.ezboard.com/bshihtzuspatalk28596 |

| I once adopted a Shih Tsu from a family who got a cute puppy for the kids and the kids got bored with it. He was 9 months old and adorable. Sparky was the reason I was so careful in choosing my yorkies. I felt like he was a badly bred, puppy-mill type puppy (I really don't know where he came from originally.) I always kept his body shaved down and brushed him daily. By the time he was 2.5 years old, he was deaf and mostly blind. He scared easily and would bite. I had small children at the time, he was actually my 4 year old son's dog. I was terrified that he would bite a child and marr them for life. This is my fear for all 'cute' or 'popular' dogs. If they are misbred, in-bred, to get a bad temperment is so horrible for the owners, especially if you have children, as they also have friends around - which the dog is usually worse with them.
