| Does your insurance offer a "How to live with Diabetes" program? When my Mother was diagnosed we went to classes that explained what it is, along with a very thorough food plan. I admit it was boring as hell, but some of it was actually informative. As far as carbs go you should limit to a 1/3 cup per meal or fist size of whatever carb ie. potato, rice, pasta, etc., and switch to whole grain breads. Orange juice is limited to one 8oz. glass, sugar free/sugar substitute jams, peanut butter, light yogurt, proteins should be the size of a deck of cards. The meals are smaller but, they said you should integrate smaller snacks throughout the day.

| yes, I have been to 2 classes- I can have 45-60 carbs per meal- 1800 calories a day- 15 carbs per snack- I take lots of inslin- i was told to count the total carbs- don't look at the sugar content -it is in the total carbs-you body changes carbs to sugar- so you don't have to cut sugar out completly- just moniter it- this was from the University of NE, Omaha Serving size of meat is about the size of a womans palm.1/2 baked potato- that is an example of one serving of carb- 15 (grams?) I lose total cocept when I like make a casserole-fix a roastwith potatoes, carrots-stuff like that! My blood sugar was 475 yesterday afternoon- took 5 units of inslin- and I ate later- but it went to low and i had shakes all nite! 475 is high- then so low- down to 60's |
