Not a call not an interview..nothing?? I have NEVER had trouble getting a job in my life??!! I know no one really has answers for me but I just really need to vent I was soooooooooooooo excited the other day to see Walmart on my caller ID..when I picked up the phone they said "your photos are ready to be picked up at the photo lab" grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Of course everyone in my family keeps asking me "what are you going to do??" "christmas will be hard if you dont find a job" well I know that!! Its not from lack of trying let me tell ya!! My common law is working full time so we arent in dire straights but you can sure feel the pinch when you are used to having two incomes. I just feel so...i dont know the right word...useless.... Just had to vent...sorry Dawn |

| I am so sorry you are feeling this way. I know it can be tough. I don't know you very well except for your postings on here and you always seem sweet and helpful. What would you really like to do if you could and had the training?

| I'm sorry that it is so hard for you to get a job right now. I think you are always sweet, friendly, and helpful here, so I can't imagine an employer not wanting you to work for them! Are you always giving your application to a manager when you fill them out? I know when I worked at Victoria's Secret many applications got lost, thrown out, ect when given to a regular employee. I just got hired at a department store, this is their super busy season. Could you try a store that usually does HUGE black friday sales? Usually these places hire a tooooon of people for Holiday and permanent positions will pop up afterwards for those who do well. I know my position is seasonal, but was told there are at least 7 full time positions they are ready to bump people up into that do well during Holiday. Don't get down on yourself though. *You* are still totally capable and able to be employed and those people don't know what they're missing!! I really think something will come soon! Who knows, you may get 5 interviews all at once! |

| The reason I asked about what you really want to do is that this may be a good time to look at getting some new training and/or go back to school. There are a lot of great programs out there for women these days. Some of them even give you some money toward room and board along with books and tuition. But I also agree with the previous poster...keep trying. You can do it. I didn't catch what happened to your last job, but you might be careful about how you're explaining that. Even if it was your fault, you can put a slant on it that could make it easier for a new employer to accept....such as..."personality conflict with previous manager".

| Oh, Dawn...so sorry you are feeling down. Have you called the hiring managers to see if they had time to review your application? They are probably just overwhelmed with tons of applications this time of year! If you call them perhaps you will stand out in their minds if they have to search their desk for your application. Also, following up will let them know you are serious about putting in some hours!! Good luck, Chin up girl! I believe if you can see yourself...visualize yourself doing something...it will happen... It works for me! |

| I worked taking care of a metally handicapped woman for 4 years..she lived in our home 24/7 and the pay was nice but emotionally I just couldnt take it anymore..it was VERY stressful..imagine a baby that never grows up...and she began seizuring the last 8 months we had her and with med changes every couple of months I just couldnt take it anymore..luckily she was placed in another home very quickly as that can take about a year. After I was done with Erin I took a job at a store across the road from my house..just a little discount store that serves a town of 900 people...my boss wasnt making money and decided she would work the store herself as she couldnt afford to pay me..understandable and no hard feelings...I worked for her under the table so no unemployment checks. I could go back to school but right now we are just getting by and I just cant afford NOT to work...even if school was free I just have to have an income. I have experience in so many things..I worked for three newspapers, retail stores, health care, you name it Im a jack of all trades. I have shook the hand of many managers this past month too with hopes of call backs imminent..and then nothing?? I suppose when one person calls they ALL will lol...but at least one person call....................please!!!!! Thanks for all your support everyone!! Dawn |

I'm sorry you are having a hard time. Try what I do when I fill out applications. I ask for the application, sometimes fill it out in the store. Then I ask to speak to a manager. I give them the application and ask if I can go ahead and talk to someone today about the application. Thats always how I get my interviews. I've had 3 jobs and all 3 times I've done that. They hired me on the spot. | |

| Have you looked on craigslist? I looked for a job for 2 months when I moved to TX and didn't find anything until I started replying to craigslist postings. Then I had more offers in one week than two months! Ususally people post on craigslist when they really need someone quickly. Best of luck, don't get discouraged!

| I'm sorry you're having a difficult time finding a job. Not sure if this was mentioned--haven't read the entire thread yet--have you considered working in clothing retail or department stores? I used to work at The Limited YEARS ago and we always hired extra people for the holiday season--especially for the day after Thanksgiving because it was always so busy. Macy's hires around the holidays, too--my friend always gets sucked in and ends up working around the holidays--then they ask her to stay. I personally could NEVER work in retail again because people can be so RUDE, especially during the holidays when there are LONG lines and crowds of people, but if you can ignore all that rudeness, retail might be an option for you. Good luck!

| Have you tried calling to "check the status of your application"? I know this helped me quite a bit when I used to work in retail and was trying to find a job. Do you have a Goodys or Kohls around where you live? I know last year during the season I worked at Goodys and they hired TONS of people for the sales after Thanksgiving and it was so busy. I'd seriously try calling and asking about the status though and tell them that you're really interested in working for them.

| Ugh! I feel so much compassion for you! Plus filling out applications is a _itch! I hope some info from "The other side" can help you a little bit. I worked as a receptionist for many years and I know that the ones that just drop-in, fill out an application and leave, hardly ever get called back for an interview. The ones that do get interviews are the people who come and get an application * takes it home to fill it out * calls to make an appointment with one of the managers * show up early for the appointment - Dressed appropriately * has the application ready with a resume * has a positive attitude * email's a thank you the same day Keep your head up! Sometimes life throws a curve ball at you. Keep knocking on doors and the job you want but didn't think you had a chance at will come calling! You might want to have a resume and attach it to your application (even if you are a stay at home mom). Make sure you add a comment like: * I'm a fast learner * Look forward to new experiences and challenges SIDE NOTE: Being a receptionist has POWER! After each interview, the management would ask me what I thougt... Why? Many people don't behave the same in front of a lowly receptionist as they do during an interview. If the person is rude, demanding or anything negative to me, but "Turn-it-On" for the interview, they don't get called back. If they can't be pleasant to the receptionist where they are applying for a job, how are they going to treat our clients and vendors?
