Hello, I am a new Yorkie owner and live in MA. We picked up our female last week from a wonderful breeder in CT. She is 16 weeks old and named Kiki. She is wonderful and has fit into our family perfectly. I would attach a photo but I haven't figured out how to do that part yet. I'm still learning here.

Kiki Congratulations on your new little girl KIKI. These little precious ones just make you want to spoil, spoil, spoil them. I have a little princess as well, she is 4 years old and her name is Tinkerbelle but we call her Bella for short as she is too beautiful to me. I think that one of the most important things to do as a new owner after getting your little princess checked at your vet's is to socialize her with other dogs, not just Yorkies but all breeds. My little one's first doggie encounter was with a Doberman/Rotweiler mix, he weighed 125 lbs and his name was Fred. Unfortunately my friend had to put him down 2yrs ago. Bella was only 10 weeks old and 1 lb and a half when she met him. It was love at first sight. Those two were inseperable, Fred used to lay down and she would lay down next to him and he would put his paw around her. It was too cute. Unfortunately when she was 2 year old she had a bad experience with a big dog who came dashing out of his yard and charged us on the sidewalk. Before I could pick her up he had picked her up and thrown her in the air. Luckily she was just bruised, but now she has a hard time socializing with strange big dogs. So my advice is socialize and make sure she knows that you are the boss as these little ones will tug on your heartstrings and you will give them what they want and then there is no going back. Also get her used to grooming, brush her everyday, touch her feet every chance you get and if you going to dress her get her used to it now. Also teeth brushing is very very important in this breed as they are prone to problems with their teeth. Get her used to teeth brushing as soon as possible. I did not start Bella right away as I was not aware that they are prone to teeth problems (thought I had done my homework but missed that information). Now I have a very hard time brushing her teeth but I use a finger brush with beef flavored toothpaste. It is hard to get her to let me brush but the alternative is an expensive trip to the vet's to get them cleaned and possible extractions. She just went for a teeth cleaning and at only 4 yrs old she had two teeth extracted, vet said they were very easy to pull a they were detached from the ligament. Sorry for going on for so long. Again congratulations on your new little one and keep posting. Thanks, Jay

Welcome Bam, Welcome to Yorkie Talk. It is an awesome site. There are tons of wonderful people on this site. They are very friendly and very helpful when you have questions. Good luck in your search for a little princess to love. I have a little princess who is 4 years old she is the best thing, I just love her to pieces. I am currently looking for a little sister for her as I believe if you are going to have yorkies you should have at least two. Enjoy Jay

Yorkie mommy Yes that was way too funny. I agree that is the last place I would have imagined running into someone from yorkietalk. I will be emailing peaches to let her know that we have another local person who is interested. I know I fussed over your little guy today but let me just say it again he is just too cute and just too sweet. Also I went to the Kennel Shop in Saco today to get Bella some dog food. While I was looking around I saw that they carry cloth bones that you can put in the fridge, I think that would help with his teething. I know this is going to sound crazy but when Bella was little I gave her a baby pacifier to play with, I cut a hole around the rim of it and ran a ribbon through it. She loved that thing, she would chew on it and then take it by the ribbon and shake it and let it fly. She had more fun with that than any other toy I ever bought her. I will keep you updated on a yorkie meet, keep in touch and by all means post some pictures of your little guy. Jay
