| What should I expect from a Groomer? Gabby (my 7 lb. Yorkie) came into my life in July. She is 7 years old. She used to be a show dog. She instantly bonded to me. She won’t let me out of her sight. She has long hair. It is getting a little to much for me. If I don’t comb her twice a day, she gets knots. I called a local groomer and asked if I could stand about 10 feet away so Gabby could see me. I knew if she could see me, then she would be fine and calm for the grooming. The groomer said”no”. Some stuff about insurance wouldn’t allow me there. I think it’s crap. She then told me she thought it would be best if I left her off and then picked her up. Gabby’s hair is about 9 inches long. I wanted the groomer to cut about 5 inches off and leave about 4 inches. She said to do that would take about 4 hours and she couldn’t do it. If I wanted Gabby’s hair cut it would have to be with clippers and the clippers left about an inch. I’ve never had any experience with a groomer before. Would anyone expect you to just leave a 2 or 3 year old child and come back and pick them up. Or would they not cut a childs hair the way you wanted it. Does anyone in Northwestern Vermont know of any good groomers. Ones that are capable of cutting her hair the way I want and letting me stay to keep her at ease. |

| Congratulations-- Did you get Gabby from Vikki? I'm sure she's lovely if you did. I think you and Gabby will be happier with her in a short haircut. Find a groomer with great references and go with his/her recommendations. If Gabby is an experienced show dog she'll settle down just fine for the groomer without you there. Long hair is very time consuming to groom. Good luck.

| to Magicgenie Hi, Yes I did get Gabby from Vickie. Gabby is just perfect. But she has become very attached to me. When I leave her with my Mother she paces and barks until I come back. And she goes to my Mother's every day. She would be much more comfortable if she could just see me even from a distance. The other thing is until I go to a groomer a few times and I see for myself how she/he handles her, I won't trust leaving her. But I think I've made a decision. I'm going to learn to do it myself. I've already cut the hair around her face and head and she looks so cute and fluffy. I can't wait to do the rest of her and I don't think it will take me 4 hours. Thanks for your input. This is a great place to get advise. |

| I would keep looking for a groomer. My groomer knows I am nervous about leaving my baby and so the first times got her groomed she said it was fine to stay, unless my baby acted up. She did at, was an angel so now she encourages me to stay. It has been a great time for me to bond with the groomer. Eventually I may decide to leave her but for now I enjoy watching. And she always just trims he for me. My Zoe's hair is about 4-5" long and she just uses scissors to trim it rather than clippers. Find another groomer. |
