Help and advice on the bad puppy habit biting. HELLO, I am new to this community and am enjoying reading other yorkie owners problems with their pups. Jax is a very tiny adorable 4 1/2 month old puppy named Jax. Overall he is perfect in everything to me..... except I am having a very difficult time getting him to stop biting your hands and feet. He just thinks its a game. And if I ignore him after saying "no bite" he turns into a little Demon dog and growls and trays to bite harder. I have read up this and tried many things. It very confusing because like right now he is a complete Mamas boy sleeping In the crook of my arm. Jax was diagnosed with a mild liver shunt about 1 month ago. But the 1ml of medicine the vet put him on twice a day and watching his protirn intake. seems to work great!!! No episodes and hes actually gone from 40oz. In weight to a cute (close to) 3 lbs Please help me get jax's devil side under control while he is still young. Thank you Wendy Jax's Mom If anyone has some good training ideas about biting please let me know.

Hi there and to YT. Love the name You will definitely get a lot of useful advice on this site. My Jax will be a year old on the 20th. We have to remember that they are still puppies. When Jax wants to bite I tell him "No Biting" or "Ouch" and pull away so he understands that he hurt you. Give him a puppy Kong to chew on. Put him in time-out for a few, but not in his crate, you do not want him to associate the both or when he goes in there he will think he's in trouble. I have a leash wrapped around the leg of the kitchen table and if he chases the cat I put him on it and ignore him for a few, of course with me in there. When I got Jax, I was afraid of my two cats getting him because he was so small but not anymore, he weighs 12 lbs now. Lucee was smart to put him in his place when he first started to chase her but my poor Johcee didn't and now he is her worst nightmare, but I protect her. Sometimes I wonder though if she likes to be chased Well good luck to you and like I said before, there are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site with great advice. Pattee, mama to JAX and "KLOEE" RIP

Thank you that's a good idea with the leash around table leg. I have been saying no bite and No. I swear he just gets more pissed at me when I ignore him then growls and snaps to get my attention. He doesn't bite hard thank goodness but he has a couple times. We also have a one year old cat (Egyptian Mau) &she just lets all 2 1/2 pounds jump all over her she is so good with him. Again thanks for the ideas I'll start today. Happy Early Birthday to your Jax ♥ Wendy, Jax & Tiva

Thanks for the early birthday wishes to my Jax. The plan is to drive down the Oregon Coast the week of his birthday and visit his mama and dad. I'm sure the breeder is going to be "hair" blown away over his size It's going to be a lot of fun. Talk to you when we get back. Pattee, mama to JAX and "KLOEE" RIP

puppy biting That is exactly what I was thinking also with the bitter apple. I bought some yesterday because he wouldn't leave our lamp cord alone. He actually shocked himself last week, I was very scared but didn't seem to phase him. But it did scare him enough where I haven't seen him near a cord again. I tried the time out with the leash yesterday (three times) he finally seemed to get the message, so I'm going to stick with that for now. That is a beautiful drive along the Coast, have fun and drive safe Wendy and Jax

That's scary, I hope little Jax is ok. These little guys are quick. Also, go to ASPCA where you will find a list of toxic and non-toxic plants to be aware of. I have been in my house a year now and had these in the back yard; hosta, daffodils, hydrangea's, ferns, now GONE. The front yard has bush plants, but my pets don't go out to the front yard, no fence. But in the near future these will be gone too. Oh, one more thing, look up the many ways that you can use vinegar, if you don't already know. Pattee, mama to JAX and "KLOEE" RIP

My tommy is 6 months now but he was the same way. We could say stop, ouch, time out nothing work until we found Billie bullies, we have been bite free for over a month. We also have a liver shunt and he has no problem with the sticks, I will say at first he walk around crying because he loves it so much but he is getting better with crying now. He favorite is the merrick spiral, plus they are wrap is more hygienic. Billie bullies been called the dog pacifiers, they have been a godsend through the only thing he will chew on. If the bull pizzle is to much for you to handle he also tried a greenie, he like it but not as much and I did not like how fast the crew down. But I would definitely give them a try. Also, wild meadow farms make sweet potato chip and this is also something we found to be hours of fun for him. Both are companies the are small made in the USA and organic... Hope that helps! Btw..mine little guy is so spoiled he sleeps on top of my still and refuses to get out of bed till about noon everyday. But he suck a good boy too!! Oh, yes one last thing we found out that help was puppy get together at local shelters and doggie day care, this also help because he had the puppy play he needed.

No Problem, I have found the community to be a blessing when it come to anything dealing with Tommy..... As for food it has not been fun, We start off with Stella and Chew raw dehydrated patties which he loved and was ok on but not getting enough other needed nutrition, When I went the the raw patties he got sick and no matter what Stella and chew I gave him he could not handle it. He then went to the hospital and they gave him ph wet food, which was nothing more then boiled chicken and rice or boiled ground beef and rice which he was on that diet for a while but I choose to cook it so he would eat it. After that the doctor put him on baby food.... HE LOVE IT!!! No getting sick and ate ever bit plus more. but again the nutrition factor plays in so now he is on Merrick wet food mixed with baby food, as for dry food it is a mix of Royal Canin yorkie, Merrick Real duck and Sweet potato, and Carna4. we fill plastic easter eggs and water bottles with it and also put it in small containers and he get the mix when riding in the car my son hand feeds it to him, Plus we leave it out all day. Since starting on the medicine I notice he eat more dry then wet. Lastly he eats anything that he can get his hands on and hides it. cheese it's, shortbread cookie, and vanilla ice cream are among his favorites. Did your doctor put him on daily medicine? Did you have to do the biopsy or just the blood test? He will be in my prayers. I know it is so scary with this precious little angles and their livers and bad toxins. we have to go back in two weeks for more testing to see if the medicine is working...

we have done the blood test where he bath and then they test him a couple hours after eating also. But since they did that test and found he had a mild liver shuntso since we been giving him the medicine and I mix royal canine yorkie with Blue Buffalo holistic and just feed him the the dry kibble. I used to mix boiled chickenbreast or chicken Gerber baby food in his kibble to make him eat it but it was giving him too much protein. We had a couple real scary times twice actually where we thought we were going to lose him he was falling over couldn't stand up really bad took him to the emergency vet both times he pulled through but since he's been on the Lactulose 1ml 2 x a day. the only symptoms he has has been rubbing his head and digs at the couch. Otherwise he eats 3-4 small meals a day and I give him fresh organic veggies and fruits he love snow peas and green beans. He was very frail tiny, but now he actually put some weight on he feels solid still not quite 3 lbs yetbut he's going to be small anyway his dad is only 3 pounds and his mom with four pounds. He plays with Teva our cat all day long. we had a checkup at the VET and to get his rabies shot in about a week. I am praying that science he was diagnosed as "mild" liver shunt. Medication along with watching his diet will be good for him without having to get surgery. Time will tell. We are prepared to do what ever it takes to have him live a nice long healty life. He also took an antibiotic for 30 days too. I will keep you and your little one in my thoughts and prayers. Keep me informed We can help each other out with what helps and what d oest Wendy, Jax, Tiva
