| My African Grey Parrot helps take care of my furbaby I have an African Grey Parrot in addition to my new furbaby Marley. My parrot's name is Quincy. Quincy has learned Marley's name and will say "Marley do you need to go outside?" Or he will as if Marley needs to go peepee. He just now asked Marley "Are you ready to go to bed?" They are so cute together. I normally let Quincy out of his cage every day but for fear of one or the other getting hurt, I have not let Quincy out in almost 2 weeks. Marley will jump up on the side of Quincy's cage and just turn his head from side to side and Quincy will say "What are you doing???" Does anybody else have birds and Yorkies? Any tips on how to get them accustom to each other without one or the other getting hurt???

| Ahhh, that does sound really cute. I don't have a bird so I can't offer any advice. Is there a way you can hold onto the bird and get them acquainted for short periods of time. May switch them off and on in cages so the each get some time out in the meantime?

| Ahhhh ... My moms bird and my Abby.... It is the most hilarious thing you can see. My mother has a cockatiel namd Lulu but she does not speak. She hates Abby but Abby literally begs to play with her. And Abby acts like her body guard sometimes by following her around the house while Lulu is walking on the floor. But the best is when they are in my room ... Abby throws a fit and starts crying for her to get off the bed cause that is her territory... I love it and it is the best... If you show your furbaby that Quincy was first and that he/ she should respect her then I think you can let your bird out of the cage. Plus, you should keep one caged from the other IMO.... Hopefully The video will come out here that I have of them too and what I call the ULTIMATE FIGHT ... | That video was so cute!! I guess I could start out with caging Marley near Quincy's cage and letting Quincy out for a little while. Right now as tiny as Marley is, I'm more afraid that Quincy will bite Marley and hurt him LOL. Quincy will not stay on his cage when i let him out. He immediately climbs off of it and gets in the floor. I guess I could also try holding Marley while Quincy has his free time.

| I have two cockitels and Suzi is always going up to their cage. Freddie is the meanie , and is a nippy bird, but, that does not stop Suzi! Suzi has a habit of eating the dropped seeds . Sometimes she wimpers and barks at them, and I have not found A way to stop her. She nearly got the female bird , Peral , who landed on the carpet, her mouth was open and ready to get Peral, my son got a hold of our birs just in time, LOL.

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | We have a Grey, Timmy is going on 20 years of age, we got him when he was quite young and I hand fed him, he is very tame, however one never really knows so we we just never took a chance with our furbabies. Timmy enjoys the girls from his big cage, and they really enjoy him, but the girls are trained not to get right near his cage. What a talker the greys are, with a real personality. He has got a very large vocabulary. When the girls get barky he tells them loudly, "QUIET PLEASE, NOW." Lol, it is so funny. We have a enclosed patio room which we use a lot it's heated in winter and a/c for summer, so that is Timmy's room I came up with a shield to catch his seeds and since his cage is quite large I fixed his feeder in the center of his cage. We gave our cockatiels to our son couple years ago, they sure have enjoyed them. I missed them terribly (3) after having them 13 years but at that time it was something I had to do and it helped knowing they were going to live with the kids I love to hear other people talk about their birds, they are so enjoyable. | I have a Grey as well, she (Boogie) is now almost 8 yrs old and have had her for seven. My three dogs were very interested in her when they were pups but have since learned to ignore her (5 yrs), if Boogie flies off her cage and lands on the floor, the dogs will not even bother to go check up on her, they are so used to her and she to them. Boogie is always free and out of her cage when we are home. We recently added a fourth dog to our menagerie, my Mom had to be placed in a nursing home so we took her dog and he acts the same way as our dogs, will not bother with Boogie. So we all co-exist very happily. and having a ball.

| Aww, cute stories. I don't have a bird, but it sounds like they are tons of fun with their vocabulary!

| I had a budgie who isn't afraid of anything including Pao and that helps I think coz she is definitely the leader of the two. She is small but she is a feisty creature lol. Took me 6 months to bring up her confidence as she came from a petstore so she was really afraid of human when she came to us. She will walk up to Pao and nip his nose and Pao was very afraid of her but the two co-exist happily. She is never in her cage except for bedtime and they love to share kisses. Once she fell on to the carpet while flying and Pao got her as a reflex but he held her so gently she wasn't even fazed by it and he let her go real fast. She was kinda angry at Pao for doing it and nipped at him lol. We never let them be together unsupervised though just in case.

| parrot I have a gray (timeth) and her name is spencey. she is always telling abbi my yorkie to shut up when she barks to much. they can be entertaining at times. Spencey likes to whistle for Abbi when she has some chicken pices left and drops them on the floor for her. |

| My husband has an African Grey. He is retired and the two of them are always together. The bird does not like me and I have to admit I'm not fond of it. I find the bird very messy with food and parrot dust. When we brought Piper home in July the Parrot was jealous of the attention that my husband gave the puppy. The bird starting cutting it's feathers. (Great more mess). Piper is very interested in the bird and they do go nose to beak and seem to play with each other but I don't trust the bird. I'm hoping that Piper will eventually just ignore it. I know I try to.

| I have an Alexandrine parrot 'Asia' he's 24 years old this april and I also hand fed him as a baby.Remy my yorkie has a high prey drive ( she's very much a terrier ) so I don't trust her. Asia is let out only when I'm there to supervise the dogs.Asia's favorite game is to throw one of his toys on the floor so that Remy will grab it and run, and then he yells for me to get the toy back ,which involves me chasing Remy around the house. Asia also likes to alert Remy when the mailman is coming up the driveway so that the dogs will run to the window and make a lot of noise....they drive me nuts! Eileen |
