You know how much I love the videos of the boys. I can't believe I just found this.

I especially loved the part where "well mannered" Eddie was scolded for going under the porch

Ha ha. That was all for show. I shout at him like that sometimes to egg him on. He knows when I'm not fooling. Well, most of the time ...

I might need to get a water bottle for my 2 - they might sound like that barking at the boxer next door

Love the video!

Mike, thanks again for a great video of the kids. It was interresting that I found out that 3 of the 5 that watched it (& listened to it) with me are "ILL MANNERED". The 2 puppies for sure & their momma! I don't have the energy to find a water bottle so I'll just give the puppies away & momma will stop barking!

Funny!

Loved the video. Labs are gentle giants most of the time, aren't they. We have a sheltie that has hysterics every time my 4 go out. Most of the time they ignore him. When they don't it's most likely at the most inopportune time, like when my dh needs to go to bed early.(Used "most" 3 times in the last 2 sentences. Bad, bad.)

That video is so funny, and cute. I love seeing your little one outrun the big guy. Joey would love to do that. His favorite game is chase, and I've always felt bad because I couldn't keep up, no more, I didn't realize how fast they were.

Your video is so funny! I feel your pain with the neighbor's dogs! There are dogs on both sides of our yard whose neighbor's are soooo irresponsible! They leave their dogs out 3/4 of the day, and they bark all day! I'm trying to train my guy to not start yapping back, but I feel bad for him. They antagonize him sooooo much! The spray bottle is a great idea! I will have to give it a shot.

Yeah, even for dog lovers, barking neighbor dogs can get annoying. The spray bottle idea worked like a charm with my three. I literally only had to spray them once or twice each before they got the idea.

A bigger part of it was making sure they're not just wandering in the yard with nothing to do themselves. That's why the neighbor dogs bark. They're bored stiff. So I go out once or twice a day and play with them. They could care less about the neighbor dogs if they've got something better to do.

Good luck! Let me know how it goes.

Once again, just like all of your pics and videos, another GREAT one! I really have enjoyed every one you have posted that I've seen. Do you do this photography/dog training thing for a living? If not, maybe you should.

I am sad to admit that my dog(s) are guilty of the fencing thing and/or barking at anyone that comes near the fence. I don't allow it & go out to stop them ASAP, but have not figured out how to get them to stop completely.....YET. Lexie (she's the one in obediance training right now) is the worst and the instigator(sp?). I've tried the squirt bottle; it doesn't seem to phase them much at all. Any other suggestions I might try???? I'd really like it to stop.

Aww, this is so adorable! &I must say, you have a GREAT backyard! All that space! I'm oh so jealous. You should see my sad excuse for a backyard. It's just a concrete slab&it's about ten feet by ten feet I would love to have a backyard like yours.

Uh, excuse me? You live in HAWAII! Isn't it one big backyard?? LOL. Kidding, I know what you mean. Mine isn't HUGE, but I couldn't imagine not having one. It's nice not to have to go all the way to the park all the time.

And luckylady, thanks. I'm blushing. I've taken pictures all my life and I even taught one semester of beginning photography years ago at the local university (I winged it!), but I'm not a professional in any sense of the word. And videos are a new hobby. It's kinda nice to have a hobby that doesn't depend on income. That might take some of the fun out of it.

As for fencing ... I had never tried to stop it until this year. I always thought it was good exercise, lol, but a trainer told me it's a sign of aggression. I wouldn't criticize anyone for not addressing it if it's manageable but I decided to try.

For us, I was amazed how easily it stopped. I sprayed them a couple times and it was over. But at the same time, I was out there giving them something better to do. Obviously, you can't be out with them all the time, but you might try spending a few minutes each day while the neighbor dogs are out there. Every every time they bark, do something to discourage it. "Uh uh!" Or try the spray bottle or shake a can of pennies. More important, toss a toy. Have them do obedience skills for treats. They are barking because they're bored. Take the boredom out of it.

Pretty soon, they'll realize barking isn't nearly as much fun.

Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

Oh gosh, now I am more discouraged. All of your helpful hints....been there, tried that. The spray bottle, the can of coins, "Uh uh and/or Quiet", toys, treats..........nothing seems to deter them from it. It's like the potato chip phrase...."once they start, they just can't stop(until they're ready). They will actually at times sit at the back fence just waiting for their "friend" to come out and play. Thankfully though, they don't do it constantly (I might add that the neighbors German Shepherd plays right along with them), and it usually only lasts for 30 seconds or a minute tops. But it's a LOUD 30-60 seconds. I will certainly continue to work on breaking them of that habit....in the meantime, a privacy fence is at the top of my dream list. Thanks for your help. When we have success, and we will, I'll be sure to let you know.

Well, I can definitely sympathize. While I've got mine under control, none of my tricks have worked on the neighbor dogs. They are as yappy as ever. I'm thinking of a privacy fence too.

If possible, you might try increasing their level of exercise. All the trainers usually say a tired dog is a happy dog.
