| Always Scratching Please Help! Bella is my yorkie who will make a year old on February 22, 2008. She is our first yorkie and our first house dog. We had no idea on what we were missing. She has brought us so much joy. I give her a bath once a week. She does not have fleas but she scratches like crazy. Does anyone know of a good shampoo that will not dry her skin out? Thanks, Becky |

| Could be allergies to food, what are you feeding. A couple of mine developed an allergy to corn after they'd been on it for a while. I feed Canidae now and no more scratching or ear infections. |

| Yes, it most likely is the Science Diet food, which according to most people it "crap". I'd switch to something without corn, wheat or soy. Those are the ingred. most likely to cause problems. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I don't find science diet to be the best food I can feed. I think it might have corn in it. Check the back of the bag and if I remember it had chicken fat in it and that is why I didn't get it. I have to check because there is a link that compares the dog foods and lists the best of the best.

| I'd switch her off of that. Look at the first 3 ingredients in the food when you go to buy some, make sure it doesn't say corn. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Just checked something...it says that they either have corn meal, corn gluten meal and animal fats and byproducts...so it's definitely not good.

| Here's a great site with reviews of kibble As far as shampoo goes, if her skin is dry try Aveeno Shampoo and Body Wash for Infants (prob not the exact name) for a time or two. It's not the greatest shampoo for the hair, but it's very gentle on the skin. Also, most oatmeal based pet shampoos would be a good bet. Here, found a pic

| Here's an analysis of Canidae and Merricks . Both brands have lots of different varieties, but this should get you started on your decision. I feed Canidae to Kirby and Bernie. It's a great food and affordable! Good luck!

| For food I like the Canidae all life stages. I've bought some pretty expensive shampoos in the past and I've been using Mane and Tail now on the recommendation of another breeder and love it! It's only $6.00 for a big bottle at walmart. |
