Yorkie hair colors Hi Everyone! I am new to the list. I have an 11 month old female yorkie and I have questions about her hair color. She had a tiny bit of silver on her head when we got her and it seems that her face and head are starting to get more of the light tan color, but her coat is still just as dark as it can be, almost chocolate black. I have friends with Yorkies and they say their babies coat turned silverfew months old. How long does it take to turn? Is there such a thing as a Yorkie that is black and tan? Thanks for helping me. Linda

Well I have a friend with a yorkie that is 8 months old and he only has a very little bit of silver on him. Be patient, the colors will change. If you look into my Katia's head her roots are turning silver already but I doubt she will turn fully for a very long time. She's 9 weeks.

Your babies seem to fall into the category of colors as reg by AKC of Black and tan OR black and gold. They are accepted colors. Don't be surprised if they do not start to turn lighter after 1 year of age and/or after they are altered...
