Default My little Boy!

Im new here on this forum & thought i would share a few photos of my little boy Rolly, who was ten yestereday, is completely blind & is my little baby!

he went blind suddenly he cant tell light from dark, but he has such a huge spirit which he lives life to the full, with the odd bump into walls & doors & the odd bit of furniture!!!

He is the last sibling of our family of yorkies we have had ever since 1983. He is the last surviving member of 4 generations of yorkies we have had.

he is such a sweetie, he has had a lot of health issues though, we thought we was going to lose him last year, but he is a fighter. I love yorkies, they are such friendly & hardy aminals & so sweet in nature, my rolly loves babies, he protects me & my friends babies & loves to play with my nieces, but never snaps.

Firstly... WELCOME TO YORKIE TALK!!!!!!

You're little boy is beautiful. I love the snow picture!

Our Yorkie lived to 19 and was blind but you couldn't tell, she got around just fine! Just had to remember not to put things in the middle of the room or move anything! It's surprising how they adapt. Do you not know what caused it? Trixie's was down to cataracs.

Thank you for your welcome.

Everyone like the picture of rolly in the snow, he loves the snow.

He went blind in a matter of hours one sunday 3 years ago, The vets first thought he had a inflamation of the optic nerve as he had no eye abnormalities, he was given an anti inflammatory injection & antibiotic injection & was reviewed three weeks later, but the injections didnt do anything. The vets then diagnosed that the optic nerves in both his eyes had stopped working but as their was no trauma or any other eye problems, said that this was the only cause. at first he was terrified, depressed & all he did was sleep, wouldnt go out for his walkies. after a month he gradually became a strong, back to his old self dog, although bumped into things didnt bother him anymore. people find it hard to believe he is blind., he is so clever, he knows every toy by name, even two toys exactly the same he knows which is which. Rolly was tested again with his eyes & still has no vision at all, but it doesnt bother him.

He has other medical issues, which we are looking into & controlling with help from a vet in inverness, who saved his life last year. I live in a very rural area in scotland, on an island so our vet has limited capabilities & diagnistic equipment & was sent to the mainland last year to the vets in inverness & i am so grateful what they did. they confirmed his blindness & other conditions we didnt know he had.

Rollys, great great grandmother lived till she was 19. His father died about 4 years ago & was 14. Rolly is the biggest yorkie we have had (he is supposed to be a miniture, but is the size of a standard yorkie) he was the only pup in the litter he was that big.

Awww, bless him. I'm glad he's adapted. A vet saved his life? What happened?

Which Island do you live on? There's some lovely islands around Scotland.

What a really sweet boy you have. He has a beautiful soul. I have a 15 year old Chihuahua who has no eyes, so I know what your going thru. It's so sad to see them go downhill isn't it.

Yeah he his such a character, but im biased

He was just not keep anything down, in the end after many trips to our local vet they said they couldnt find out what was the matter & as he was vomiting blood & pooing blood theyre found a vet who was willing to see him. They did loads of tests & an endoscopy & we found out what was up with him & he treated him. He lost so much wieght you could see every bone in his body & we was frantic trying to find out what the matter was. But he is better now, well of that problem anyway, he has put most of his wieght back on & is a happy soul. They also discovered he has a heart murmur which we need to keep an eye on.

He has a new medica problem which we are trying to find out what it is, this is worrying at the moment & i think I may need to take him back to the mainland vet to see if they can help him again. He is at the vets on friday to see if the treatment of this new problem is working. We had to get him an emergency appointment at the vet a few days ago, poor little boy has had a rough ride the last year, hopefully this new problem isnt serious. I hate it when he is poorly as he is like my child & love him loads, he is special boy, my companion for me when my husband is working & for both of us get so much joy from him & unconditional love. Its hard when they are poorly. he is a little fighter tho.

I live in the western Isles (Lewis) it is lovely here, but you can be isolated sometimes.
