| Toto finally overcame her fear of thunderstorms!!!! I am so terribly proud of her!! We never, ever exhibited any fear/nervousness when there were thunderstorms with loud thunder & lightening. Toto never even showed signs of noticing any of these things .... until .... we were having dinner with her "Uncle Rick" & "Aunt Karen"!!! We heard a giant clap of thunder and saw a huge lightening strike and Karen immediately scooped Toto up saying, "Here, come to Aunt Karen, I know you're afraid of that old storm!!!" Well!!!! She wasn't until then!! Aunt Karen was, but Toto was not!! Ever since then, if Toto heard thunder, she would begin shaking and run to be cuddled and held ... it was pitiful she was sooooo frightened!! We have worked really hard for way over two years to try and get her to stop this and finally, finally a couple of days ago we heard a huge clap of thunder [very rare in Colorado where we are] and she literally ran to the window instead of running to us!!! She looked everywhere and would just look over her shoulder at us like .... "don't worry, I'll take care of this"!! We are soooo happy ... it was heartbreaking to see her so frightened when this would happen! It feels so good knowing she is no longer afraid!!

| One of my Shelties (of course the biggest dog I have!) is afraid of thunder. He whines and passes during storms and won't let you hold him. What was it that you did to get Toto over it?

| I am glad she isn't afraid anymore. Hannah isn't afraid of the storms she wants to "kill" the storm. She constantly runs through the house at each window and barks and growls, no one gets any sleep if there is a thunderstorm at night. |

| I am so very glad that Toto is over her fear. It is no fun being afraid. Sounds like Auntie Karen needs some counseling about storms |

| Go Toto!! Glad she was able to overcome that fear It's funny how these little ones can learn fear or certain behaviors in a matter of seconds, and then it takes such a long time to break the habit or lose the fear. I'm so proud of Toto! Being scared of storms is no fun!

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I;m sorry for laughing but leave it to a yorkie to MILK it for all it's worth.... Aunt Karen had the best intentions but how smart of her to pick up on that... I'm glad she overcame her fear....it's hard to see them shake and cower even if it was a 'learned' behavoir...the little smartie. How cute she's in charge of storms now LOL ... |

| We don't know what we did to help her with her fear except not showing fear ourselves. It was heartbreaking to see her afraid that way and absolutely nothing we did would console her! It was just so amazing to see her run to the window and more amazing than that, she stayed there until the storm was gone!! She loves to sit up there in her little "window bed" and watch the world go by. Occasionally she would look at us over her little shoulder like "it's OK, I'll protect you"!!

| Good for Toto! She's a brave little girl! Now, I wish she could talk to my Paddington who is STILL afraid of thunderstorms at five years old. Miss Paddy will get anxious before the storm even fully arrives - maybe I should sign her up for meteorology classes?

I don't know why he gets so upset. Nobody else does. The other dogs ignore the storm and Dempsey. I guess its too late to teach my old dog a new trick...
