| First Haircut! Well all I had them do was trim his ears, feet and private areas. The guy that did it said that they normally trim the eye area under the eyes. I have never heard of that. He trimmed it but im still not to sure if that was the right thing to do. I also heard that they are suppose to "trim" the bottom area with scissors not with a razor and he is pretty bare down their. can anyone tell me if what they are suppose to do when they trim him? Thanks bunches!! |

| Hi Kilamonster, your Tyson Bailey is just adorable! Is he your first yorkie? If he is, I bet he won't be your last I keep my boys in a medium length cut, but I think next spring they're going to go shorter. They come in now with tons of leaves on them, I call them the "velcro pups" everything sticks to them. Glad your here...Theresa |

| I have learned that the most important thing we can do with our groomers is communicate. Schatzie went in a few weeks ago for her first cut. She shaved her nose line too, oh I was not happy!! It will take so long for it to grow back. I am waiting to keep her in a medium length but after I let her grow hair real long just to see what she looks like and to get professional prints done of her. However the rate we are going now this will take years. I will have to keep an eye on the hair around the nose to make sure it won't poke her little eyes when it begins to grow back. She also had her privates shaved but will request a scissor cut down there next time. The rest of the cut was fine with me. Oh, she also cut her bangs too short, so for all the hair to be in a top knot will take forever too. So, yes communicate, communicate, communicate and both of us will wait patiently for our babies hair to grow back. |

| Sheryl, you're absolutely right about communication ... and it has to be communicated every time with some groomers! This particular groomer and I had discussed Toto's nose and I told her not to shave it ... I wanted to discuss these things with our breeder and vet who both show their Yorkies! The next time Toto went to the groomer I was busy so my husband took her and as soon as he started home with her he called me ... he said "you're gonna be mad" and I almost fainted!! Not only did she shave her little nose ... she shaved her little private parts and Toto was already itching and scratching when she came in the door!! I bathed her myself the next day! I took her to Dr. Lucy that next week and she was mad ... had to pull clumps of hair out of her ears and her little anal gland had not been expressed!! Mad? ... noooo I wasn't mad ... I was furious!! I would have been forgiving had the nose shaving not already been discussed! I'm so thankful that I learned later that our vet will groom her so I know everything will be done properly!! If you brush Shatzie every day perhaps that will encourage growth? Also, we were told to get a mister bottle that sprays a fine mist and to use that with conditioner/water diluted half and half. This reduces breakage of the coat ... I always use this when I brush Toto and I also use a good "human" boar bristle brush [round] and it works beautifully!
