| New Arrival I've adopted (yesterday) a very special guy from a Yorkie rescue. Sean is 6 years old, very sweet and is now adjusting to his new forever home. The "going out" is working out just fine but having a little difficulty with his eating. (He smells the food, walks away, and gets a drink of water.) I know, from having other Yorkies in the past, that he will be okay. Of course, as with most people on this forum, I am a very protective new parent. Our first night went well with his sleeping on the bed, while I kept my hand on him so I would know if he woke up and had to go out. One trip out at 4:30 AM in the cold and we were both back to bed until after 8. He gave both my husband and I kisses last night! That was so great. I'll post updates as he adjusts more. We're off to the vet on Tuesday for a baseline exam (He already has all his shots, taken care of by the Rescue), especially for a checking of his teeth. There may have to be some dentistry done (so common for Yorkies as I know from my other ones), but I don't think anything else will be an issue. |

His dad had health problems so he was taken care of by the Yorkie Rescue. This is the first time I've ever adopted from a Rescue. Two of my other Yorkies were adopted at about 8 weeks and the other at 4 months. They all led long lives and were such important parts of our lives. Sean will be, too, I'm sure. I think it's wonderful that people have set up the Rescue groups with such high standards. I had to fill out a comprehensive application, have a phone interview, and a home inspection. All immunizations are completed prior to adoption and health records are provided. How old was your guy/gal when adopted? Any special advice you can share with me? | |
