| Yorkie or Silky? Thoughts? Hi all!! It's been a beautiful 6 months with our munchkin! Thanks to the help on here, we have successfully potty trained her (with a few exceptions) and she's grown on this family more each day! Lately, my husband has believed Harley is not a yorkie, but a silky terrier? I believe she's a full breed yorkie. However, I do think she's a little larger than what I've seen, or compared to other yorkers I've seen. We love her no matter what she is, we would just like to get some thoughts on what she looks like? When we adopted her, we were told she was a purebred AKC Yorkshire, with papers and all. We got her for her size, and she's been spayed. She lives a comfortable life! I've measured before. From shoulder to foot is about 8 inches, from shoulder to butt is 13 inches. Not sure if that helps? Her weight ranges between 9-10 lbs. But I think she over eats. |

| My now passed girl as an adult weighed in at 17 pounds, she was pure AKC registered yorkie, no fat, beautiful sleek body, see her pic in my album. She had the same muzzle your baby has. Because your baby is big (and 10 pounds is really not that big) does not mean she is not pure yorkie. My adopted guy weighs 12 pounds and has the longer muzzle. Your baby looks 100% adorable all yorkie to me.

| :welcome4 Welcome to our growing family of Yorkie lovers! Your Harley is just precious beyond words - that face would melt the Polar Ice Caps!!!!! She definitely looks 100% Yorkie to me. As to her size, although AKC standards state up to 7 lbs., many 100% AKC Yorkies exceed this weight. From my limited show experience and associations with AKC conformation exhibitors and breeders, generally a "show" yorkie is square - meaning shoulder height = base of neck to base of tail length. With this said, way too many champions are so highly line bred/in bred to get these traits that negative genetic issues occur. The number of Conformation Champions with genetic disorders is disgusting. So bottom line, Harley is beautiful - she looks 100% yorkie to me, so if she is on the larger side that just means that there is more of her to love. |

| More than likely - Yorkie! She's cute, btw. But it often is hard to tell. The thing is... you get a lot of bad breeding going on and sometimes a Yorkie isn't bred to "standard" but it doesn't mean they're not a Yorkie. And it may not even be "bad" breeding -- sometimes it's just genetics and they don't necessarily turn out to be a "show dog" but doesn't make them any less of an amazing pet. I often think my Jackson is a Silky Terrier. But I have no papers on him whatsoever. He was advertised as a yorkie though. I got him from a backyard breeder in Baltimore City. For all we know, she did not know if her own dog was a Silky or a Yorkie. Often times, not-so-great breeders will use a Silky female since they're often bigger and can produce more puppies etc etc. But Silky's are more rare. My Jackson is a BIG boy-- he's 18/19lbs. He's longer than he is tall, he has bigger ears, a longer snout, and the "eyeliner" look around the eyes that are all typical of Silky's. From what I've seen in Silky groups I'm in etc, he could very well be a Silky. Size alone doesn't determine that for me but the many other things. A "well-bred" Silky and a "well-bred" Yorkie are actually easy to tell apart.

| She looks just like my Duchess and Duchess is definitely a yorkie (and mischievous as hell). My last yorkie I think was a silky. From what I understand, silkies have more rectangular bodies and yorkies have square bodies, Silkies have a longer snout and the ears are closer together I think. My Brandi had a rectangular body with a long snout and her ears were close together and sat of the top of head as opposed to on the sides. Either way, I love both breeds. I did read somewhere silkies are having declining numbers, not sure how true that is. |
