| Eye goobers My Olie has terrible eye goobers. (I don't know what else to call them! LOL). I don't bathe him everyday because his skin is naturally dry and it makes it unbearable for him. I've tried washing his face and using eye wipes but he loses the hair under his eyes too much when I do that. The Vet said there is really nothing he can do. Grrrr. Any ideas? They get pretty matted. When I bathe him, I use a tear free shampoo and they do soften up and come off. I've tried using a tooth brush with water but unless it's really wet and I'm bathing him, they pull his hair out. I may just have to put up with them but they look nasty. I don't see it in other dogs when I've seen them in person or pictures. Anyone else have this issue? |

| I have battled this too. Are you feeding a good quality food and using filtered water for him to drink? I press a cotton ball soaked in warm water on the area until the gunk softens up. I then can just use my fingernail to remove it. I have had to do it in the morning and then in the afternoon because my girl's eyes would gunk up so bad. I switched to filtered water and a different food and within 2 weeks her eyes are so much better.

| We use Gerber water. No flouride, no chloride, etc.

YorkieTalk Newbie! | I use filtered water as we have a system in our home and do feed her grain free food. I only have to wipe her eyes weekly when she gets a bath. Some times I notice in the summer, she got more discharge. Maybe allergies. Keep her hair out of the eye area too. Get it do the trimming carefully. That is the best way to control it too. |

| Max has had this issue for quite some time also in his left eye only. When we went to the vet a couple of week ago they gave me some antibiotic eye drops. They said it could be bacterial. I have given him one drop twice a day and it has helped. I did this for 2 weeks and stopped a few days ago. I'll monitor the eye to see if it acts up again. So far so good.

| Deuce will get them. I clean around his eyes and beard with a warm wet paper towel daily to keep the mess to a minimum. I also use Gerber water (Baby Water) for his water bowl. It seems to work.

| Aww that is tough. I use a wet wash cloth everyday and pat. Then pull out the crusty stuff. I think it helps to keep up with it on a daily basis.

| This is a tough one! When they're crusted I use a warm wash clothe. I'll dab until the area around their eyes are wet enough that's the "gunk" is soft. I then wipe it away as best as I can then use a little metal comb around their eyes for anything that remains. Then pat the area dry a bit. For me I've found the most important thing is to keep the eyes dry but not let the gunk dry... so, I'm wiping out the gunk constantly it seems (3+) times a day with something dry and using a wet clothe anytime it's dried up so I'm not pulling out hair. Good luck!!! |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | One of my pups also has this issue.. I've noticed that it is worse during the summer months when he is struggling with his allergies. Maybe your pup also has allergies.

| I use gerber water also. It does wonders for tear staining in my maltese but it's not doing much for my 9 yr old yorkie. It started about a year ago and all I can guess is allergies. |
