I was wondering if anyone knows of any health problems that comes along with a Yorkie have some extra weight. For example, will my baby be prone to having more heart conditions than a smaller yorkie? Will he have bad knees? If so, what do you recommend to prevent those health problems from manifesting?

Deb assures me that he is a strong and sturdy boy (which I so appreciate!). I just want to make sure my dog will have a long and healthy life.
Whimsy is a doll. Six years ago when we got our Kinder from Deb she was chubby and a very healthy puppy. My vet said a bigger puppy is much more healthy than those tinies. Your baby's knees will be fine and his heart will be ok. He will lose some chubby fat as he grows and believe me Deb takes very good care of her puppies. They are not skinny starving pups. We went to her place in in 2010 to pick our Kinder up and wow she is so great to her dogs. If we could get another yorkie we definitely would buy from her. Anyways Whimsy is a doll and our yorkie is about six and a half pounds. Enjoy your little dolly I am sure you will be a wonderful mom to your Whimsy. Susan

Thank you so much! Hearing that Kinder is nice and healthy makes me really relieved. I trust Deb a lot, but I also know that breeders cannot guarantee a particular sized pup. I just wanted to make sure my Whimsy would be healthy in the future if he ends up being 7-9 pounds. But it sounds like he will! Thank you!

Wow Whimsy is a cutie. I told Deb I was looking for a larger yorkie and she had Cookie charted at 7-8 pounds, and that's exactly what her adult weight is now (about 7 3/4 lbs). Cookie has been the picture of health and is now 3 years and 3 months old. Her knees are sturdy and she loves to run and chase things. I remember being concerned about her eating when in a new house right when I picked her up and Deb assured me Cookie loves to eat, that would be no problem, haha

That's super reassuring! Thank you! So I'll just trust Deb's wisdom. She is the yorkie yoda. And it's good to know that if he's on the bigger side, he'll be perfectly healthy.

My friend has one of Deb's pups. He's 9 years old now. He is the sweetest, most adorable boy. He's sturdy and very healthy. He has never had a health issue.

I sent you a private message. I don't think you could ever go wrong with Deb's puppies.

Hey everyone! I got my little guy on Friday, and he has been wonderful. He whined for the first hour or so, but got really comfortable after that. He's so beautiful in person. He has a big personality, which I love. But he's also quiet and adapts to change relatively easily. He's curious and cautious but never afraid. Anyway, I'm going gah gah over him. Here's his photos - https://www.instagram.com/whimsy_the_yorkie/

Don't mind the terrible haircut. I can't take him into a groomer yet, so I hacked away thinking it'll look fine. It didn't. But he's so cute he can pull anything off.

Anyone have issues of teary eyes and scratching with their new pups? Whimsy has been checked by 3 different vets/professionals, and there's no sign of fleas, ticks, or the like. We thought it was allergies, but saw 0 improvements after giving him antihistamines.

Congrats! He's a cutie!

Did you give him a bath? I know when I first got my girl, I wasn't rinsing her enough and that made her itchy.

On the eyes, I know deb uses RC food, have you thought about transitioning to a grain free food? A benefit of switching to grain free was that my girls eyes stopped running- such a bonus not to mention a great ingredient list. Those are the only two things I can think of.

Did everything I could--bathing and changing from RC to Orijen. Maybe I'm not rinsing him enough. I don't have a retractable shower head, so I put Whimsy in a bath and collect water from the tub to rinse him. That being said, he came scratching. Before I gave him a bath. Anyway, he's seeing a vet today, so he should be fine.

Whimsy is such a cutie. Yeah, I can see his big personality in the videos! He looks really confident around you guys too, which is a sign of a great breeder in Deb!

Whimsy is super cute!! Congrats on finally bringing him home

As for the itching, I noticed this with my baby Scottie too when I first brought him home (he had a bad case of dandruff too). It could have been due to several factors. Things I changed/used:

- use a fragrance-free natural shampoo (and made sure to rinse well - i.e. rinse more even after I thought he was thoroughly rinsed off)
- transitioned him to grain-free kibble
- changed his water daily, cleaned his water dish frequently, and gave only filtered water
- made sure not to use fabric softener in washing his bedding/towels and used vinegar as the "softener" to make sure all detergent was well rinsed off
- vacuum and kept his area clean
- fed a teeny tiny bit of organic virgin coconut oil daily

Note that it seems common for some puppies to be extra itchy. They sometimes just grow out of it...

Oh and how about bathing in the kitchen sink? It's so much easier to just use the sprayer to rinse them thoroughly - for me anyway.
