| Another question about coats..... ....because I can't seem to find the answer after reading on this site and many others. Colby turned 9 months old on the 14th and I cannot figure out his coat. It was looking like it'd get long and silky but now its thinning and slowed down in growth. I've read all about cotton coats, what I thought he was for a moment, but then I read they are thicker, He has a THIN coat. he also has this thinner, finer under coat??? I think it my be his puppy coat? it comes out when I brush him. Right now he looks horrible. I don't know if I should give up and get him cut or wait. (I was really wanting to get it LONG) Here is a picture to help. I cannot get a side picture, I swear he knows what I'm trying to do!! (we were just playing in the pic, he looks horrible but its the most recent one I can provide) you can see his chest his hair is so thin. Any thoughts? |

| What a cutie! He def doesn't have a cotton coat. Cotton coats grow out rather than down, and they grow really really fast. He looks like he has a silky coat coming in, or there is a third type called a modified coat which is kinda in the middle. Keep in mind that a yorkie's final coat takes a few years to finally come in.

| Thanks for the reply. He's a super sweetie. I think he'd look good with the long coat. I've just compared his growth to others on this site and he looks behind a couple months.... Worried |

| You won't really know for at least another year or so. Esp with silky hair, it grows really slow. Uni has silky hair but it's really thin and it breaks off. Her hair never gets too long.

| Colby's coat looks like Buddybear's. Thinner but Buddybear just turned 1in July. I can't imagine it getting any thicker but who knows he might surprise me.
