| Sammy got neutered today :( Poor Sammy went under the knife today - he has to wear the cone for the next 7-10 days so he doesn't lick or chew the stitches, so I think he's a little bit mad at me! The vet didn't give me any pain meds for him, she told me to give him half of a baby aspirin 2x a day if he seems to be in pain. Can anyone suggest anything else, since the aspirin doesn't seem to be helping? Thanks everyone! |

| My vet always gives my babies "Torbutrol in Vitamino" for any issue my babies have with pain. It is very well tolerated, it is easy to give, and it is not bad tasting in that vitamine solution. It works really well at controlling pain....I do not like giving aspirin following surgery of any kind....I have seen post op bleeding into the surgical area....it may be minor bleeding, but it can cause bruising and hematomas.....Torbutrol is an effective pain killer and works great. I would call and TELL the vet the aspirin is not helping and ask if he would please give some Torbutrol liquid. If he does not mix it with the vitamino, you can mix the little dose in a little Karo syrup to take the bite out of the medicine.....mine love it in the vitamino solution and take the dose, which is 1/2 cc or less, easily. Also keeps them calm and sedated..... |

| Aww poor baby! Pnut was in bad shape after his sx, it took him 3/4 days to start acting normal. I do agree, call your vet and tell them u NEED some pain meds.. You can also take the cone off if you are able to watch him, thats what I did with Pnut and he was more comfy.

| Thanks for the replies. Sammy seems to be doing better today using just baby aspirin. I keep the cone off except when I can't watch him, and overnight. The swelling has gone down and he isn't licking or chewing at the incision. He is actually a little bit playful today, so I think his starting to feel better. Thanks again for the suggestions! |

| I'm sorry they didn't give him any pain meds. I think I'd switch vets. And, I agree with what you are doing - keep that nasty cone off of him when you can. It's not needed really - especially if Sammy's not a licker. What a cutie patootie he is!

| Poor little guy. My Vet gave me Metacam for my Chloe she didn't get a cone. I don't to much about the pains meds but I really think your Vet should have given you something. Hope he feels better soon. |

| I'm happy to report that Sammy is recovering well! I only kept the cone on when I had to leave the house. I am letting him keep it off overnight, since he sleeps with us, we will be aware if he is licking the wound. He tried a few times, and I told him NO! And he stopped immediately and hasn't tried again. The swelling has gone down, the color is getting back to normal, and Sammy is energetic and playful, so I guess all is well |
