| I'd like to introduce NICKY Nicky is 9 years old and has been a part of our family since he was a few months old. He had a haircut recently, I like to shave him down during the summer months. We purchased him at a pet store before I was aware of puppy mills and abuse etc.. My vet told me that he's part yorkie and part shnauzer (sp?) He loves taking naps on his doggie beds and going for rides in the car. I still cant get him to sit down in the bath even after all these years He won't let me go anywhere near his face with a buzzer or a scissor. For years Ive tried trimming his face and he always tries to bite me. Even a dog groomer couldn't do it which shocked me. Any advice? |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Aww, I love Nicky! He sure looks healthy and happy! He may be pretty set in his ways as a 9-year-old, but I'd try conditioning him to the scissors and clippers. Start with the most non-threatening scissors you can find, and just put them near your dog. If the dog gets upset, put them a little farther away. As soon as your dog relaxes, reward with a treat. Then slowly build on that. Move the scissors a little closer, reward. Keep pushing his limits and rewarding for success until you can touch him with the scissors and, hopefully, until you can take a snip. Any setbacks, just take a step back. If he loses interest in treats, reward with a better treat or a toy. You can try the same technique with the clippers, slowly getting him used to the noise. Biting is another issue altogether. I'd try to nip that in the bud too. You can try yelping if he bites and lick your wounds. Good luck.

| One important picture I forgot to add, Nicky LOVES tummy rubs @Alaska Yorkie - I responded but I got a message saying that a moderator will approve my post. Thank you very much for your input, Im going to that method by leaving the sciccors near him to see how he reacts. Last edited by Love my nicky; 08-08-2012 at 02:59 PM. |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Love it! Mine always steal each other's toys and destroy them. Looks like you're up to 10 posts, and I think that's the threshold for moderation.
