| Meet Zorro! Silky or Big Yorkie? Hello! I am new to the forum and have a 4 year old dog named Zorro. I've considered him a Silky since we got him at 6 months old, but there is some question... He was purchased by a young woman from a puppy store in Las Vegas, NV, and was sold as a "teacup yorkie" (eyeroll). She couldn't keep him and took him to the animal shelter, during a time when there was a shelter-wide parvo breakout. The Golden Retriever rescue was there to get any Goldens out of the shelter, and one of the women saw Zorro and took him too. He was never checked into the shelter, the girl was still in line to give him up! Anyway, long story short, my family was contacted by a woman at the rescue and we ended up with a 6 month old puppy. He was our first dog. I'm a dog groomer, and when I met him, my first thought was "this is a Silky! He's way too big to be a yorkie!". He's an excellent little dog, with lovely hair that requires little grooming (I keep him in a Schnauzer pattern anyway). He's intelligent, active, and great with my 2 year old son. He's good size, and there's nothing delicate about him. So based on these photos, would you call him a Silky or a big Yorkie? |

| He looks Yorkie to me ...Yorkies come in all sizes, they can get up to 15 to 20 lbs. This is a silky Terrier...and your baby don't look like him.

| I would say big Yorkie, too. He's just not as doggie looking as most Silky's I've seen in person. Love his clip. |

| thank you, he is a good boy. Kind of a butt for grooming though, hence the schnauzer pattern! |

| Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. I enjoy working with Yorkies, especially with the puppies... they're so much easier to work with when the owners start getting them groomed young! Zorro was 6 months and in a hideous westie clip when we got him. I grew him out for about a year, but little by little I started clipping him down. When the last of his pretty black hair was gone, I gave up on keeping him longer and took him down to a #7 schnauzer. I love it. I also dye his skirt occasionally, which is why it's slightly blue. For Halloween 2009, my son was Super Mario and I dyed Zorro green, put a felt saddle on his back, and spiked his hair with red gel into a mohawk... you guessed it, he was Yoshi! I'll never dye his whole body again... poor guy was green for the next 6 months. |

| I have often thought Jackson is a Silky but am still not sure... I did not get him from a good breeder. I've heard of lots of bad breeders using Silky mothers with little Yorkie fathers. The two breeds are genetically about the same though, very closely related, as is the Australian Terrier. Jackson is about 16lbs and muscular and longer than tall. He fits the Silky personality to a tee from everything I've read. Here's a few good Silky websites- Silkys in Performance Blackrange Championship Silky Terriers Home - Tawny Mist Silky Terriers Zorro is very handsome! Welcome to YT!!!
