| New yorkie owner ;o) Have questions Hello all, I got an early Valentine's day gift from my hubby...a little gal named Ailee. She is 4 months old and is a tiny thing weighing 3.3 lbs. She knows her sit, stand and go potty command. She goes potty in the litter box. She loves walking on a leash and knows where to go to sleep without whining in the night. We both love her!!! I only have a few questions which I hope someone can help me with. Her previous owner told us that she sometimes eats/plays with her poop. Gross, I would like her not to do that, any suggestions. Also, when I roll her on her tummy in the submissive position, she nips at me I tell her "no" firmly but she continues to do it. Another thing is that she doesn't like us to touch her head/face. She will do her nipping thing. I try to touch her so she becomes accustomed to a hand in her face in case she needs a haircut. Also, she has little boogers down her eyes, so some of her little hair is matted with it. I tried cleaning her face but once again she nips and got ahold of the wash cloth. I gave her a bath and she hates water on her face. Any idea on how she can get used to having her face washed? What causes those eye boogers, should I take her to a vet? Finally, she scratches her neck a bit and bites/nibbles one little area on her back. My hubby thinks she may have fleas, I don't think she has any 'cause the previous owner seemed to be very neat and organized. I personally think that she may be allergic to the shampoo or conditioner we used. Has anyone experienced this before? The only reason I think she may be allergic is because she scratched and nipped at those same areas after her bath (once her hair was dry). Please help. Thanks in advance. I will be posting pics on my little baby as soon as I can. One last thing, does anyone know where I can find her a bow and a little sweater. Thanks again! |

| Congratulations on your new baby and welcome to Yorkie Talk! As far as the itching - it could be fleas - even the neatest people can't control what is outside sometimes. But again, it could be the shampoo - some dogs' skin is very sensative (mine included) to different things. As for bows and sweaters - there are SO many adorable places to get doggy duds. Some of my favorites: http://www.dog-bows.com/cgi-bin/TheF...Touch/shop.cgi http://www.spoiledyorkies.com/index.html http://www.smalldogmall.com/shop.aspx I hope that helps. As for the nipping, you may want to consider putting her in a training class. It has worked wonders for me in the past and also helps strengthen the bond between the two of you. Hope this was at least somewhat helpful - again, welcome to Yorkie Talk!

| Hi and welcome!! Ailee sounds very sweet!! A lot of the problems you are describing seem semi-normal for her young age. I have a 5 1/2 month old (Hercules). He is constantly nipping at our hands when we are playing with him. I think it's because they are teething. He has lost his 4 bottom teeth, but that's all I've seen so far. The best thing to do is to replace your hand with a toy when she's is nipping and say no like you are doing. As for the eating the poop thing, I believe that's a fairly common problem as well. If Hercules poops and we don't catch it and remove it immediately, he will try to eat it too. I guess the best advice to you is to try to remove the poop as soon as she's done. I also think there's something you can put in their food to make the poop taste horrible (as if it doesn't already taste bad!). I guess horrible for their tastes! When it comes to touching Hercules on the face, I usually can only do that when he's asleep. He'll fall asleep in my lap and once he's pretty deep into the sleep I'll scoop him up and hold him like a baby. Then I'll start messing with his face. I'm hoping that after the teething stage he'll be a little more accepting about me touching his face. Well those are my experiences and suggestions. Hope it helps some. Welcome again. Oh and be sure to post pictures when you can!!

| Thanks for the advice and welcome. I feel a bit more of a relief knowing that other people go through this too. I will be posting pics within the next few days, hopefully they came out as cute as she is. Thanks again. |

| Hello and welcome to YT. Ailee sounds sweet and she sounds like she is doing pretty well already with you. Aimee and bld2741 gave great advise so I just wanted to chime in and tell you "welcome to the site" and look forward to seeing your new little Ailee.

| Welcome, Ailee & Mom!! Great advice already given! The only thing I can add is about the scratching. Toto never does that as a rule but not long ago we noticed her doing it ... took her to the vet ... turned out she was allergic to the new carpet we had just had installed! She also had teary eyes. After much cleaning of the new carpet and a little medication she cleared right up!! Looking forward to pics of little Ailee!!

| Congrats on your new pup! Lucky you that she's litter trained! I'm jealous. Regarding the poop: http://timbreblue.com/petdogs-l/trai...opraphagia.htm I'm trying the pumpkin next. |
