| Adult Housebreaking HELP! I purchased a 7 mo Yorkie from a breeder and was told she was papertrained. One of the main reasons I purchased an older dog was to make sure she was papertrained. The breeder said she was but she is definitely NOT. I am beside myself. I wanted a dog that I could let be by my side and sleep with me and have found that I can't let her run free of her confined area unless I can sit there and keep an eye on her and even then, she will squat before I can do anything about it. I have tried to let her sleep with me but discovered she has been peeing on my bed every night. I bring her to work with me but if I let her run, she goes everywhere. I have tried everything and am getting very frustrated. Can anyone help? |

| You'll have to start from the very beginning, just as you would with a younger Yorkie. Baby steps, but you guys will get there. I'm sorry you were misled. I feel your frustration! |

| Thank you Thank you for your advise. So you are saying that I DO need to keep her in the confined areas until she is trained? What is that is all she get to know is to go on the paper 'inside' her confined area? |

| They will learn to go on a wee wee pad....what I started doing when Maximus was 11 weeks was gating off the living room and putting 2 pads in there...one by the tv and the other by the other side of the living room...when he peed in the right area (on one of the pads)...I gave him a treat and made a big deal. he had this down almost a week later...so I begand opening the gate when I was home.....I added a pad to the hallway, but kep the bedroom and bathroom doors shut, he got that in no time and now he basically has no accidents..I say basically because he will soemtimes pee to close to the edge...but he will never pee in a spot where there is no pad....and BTW the poop does take a little bit longer!!! Good Luck!!!, Maximus is almost 6 months now!!!

| I would also try the panties when you take her to your work and out to be certain she has no accidents. You could also use them at home and take her to her potty every hour and a half or so and take it off to let her go. That way she won't have to be confiedna dn you will save your bed. Good luck |

| Thank you so much for your advise. You don't think that she is too old to start 'pee padding' her? |

| No I don't think she's too old at all. A friend of mine rescued a 10 year old Yorkie who was NOT potty trained at all but she managed to wee wee pad train her in record time.

| Thank you so much. I'll run right out and buy some of those. So should I start letting her out of her penned area? I usually don't do that unless I can sit right there and play with her. |

| No I would wait until she understands the concept of the pads before I let her out of the area...once you get your wee wee pads you can check out Petedge..they have them the cheapest that I have seen even with shipping included..I paid about 32.00 I think for 200 pads...good luck!!!..I bought 2 boxes of 200 and with shipping it came out to 85.00 I think!!! so not bad considering 100 is like 30.00 in Petsmart!!!

| The only other thing I would suggest is doing some kind of crate training. This helps the dog learn to control it's urges to urinate and defecate, so that it does not do it any time and anywhere it wants. (it begins to learn to hold it until the proper time). At 7 months old, while still a puppy, it should already have developed better control, then it has, so you need to work on this with him/her. |

I do agree with Wee-wee pads ...some yorkies take way longer than others but they WILL get it - We had pads in about 4 different places with Cheri and she was almost a 10 months old before completely trained while my other - my FIRST yorkie Chanel was trained in less than 2 weeks.... Just be patient and throw a parade when she goes on the actual pad - one day she'll do it all on her own. | |
