| Is best option a 3-month-old or 9-month-old? I'm considering buying my first Yorkie. A reputable breeder in my area is offering a 3-month-old and a 9-month-old. She just decided to sell the older one instead of showing him. I'm leaning toward the older one. Any advice? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | For myself I would go with the older one. Although the puppy stage is cute, the older I get the more I prefer a little older one. Another thing is you will have a great idea of what he will look like. As long as he has been socialized and at least some what potty trained he would be ideal. If you can go see both and then decide? Good luck and keep us posted.

| I got my second Yorkie at the age of 9 months under the same circumstances -- the breeder was going to show her but decided not to. She was so dang easy! Still trainable but so well behaved. When someone is planning to show a dog, they get them used to all kinds of things ... like being handled, groomed, walked on leash, topknots messed with, etc. (I was shocked the first time I tried to re-do her topknot -- as soon as I touched it, she immediately hit the ground laid flat until I was through). And they've had potty training, but you will have to transfer what they know about what is acceptable in their old home to the equivalent in your home. You will also have a much better idea of how the pup will turn out as an adult. I say go for the 9 month old!
