| Yorkie I live in central Virginia, near Lynchburg. I delivered a puppy to Baltimore a few months ago but I have vowed to NEVER do that again. That couple was from PA. I am old and just cannot handle that traffic any longer. Please check out a breeder carefully before you buy. If you read YT much, you will hear horror stories that are all too true. Remember once you fall in love, having someone offer you another baby is very little comfort. It is so much better if you can buy a healthy puppy to start with. The cheapest deal might not be a good deal at all. On the other hand, my Yorkies are one of the best things that ever happened to me!

| please go to the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, they have lists of different breeders in different states that they recommend as being safe and healthy Yorkie breeders. Here's the link: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America I got my little guy from a woman in NY named Wendy Garcia. I've spoken with a lot of the breeders in NY, PA, and CT and while they can be pricey, it is so much better to find a healthy puppy from one of these responsible breeders Good Luck |

| Breeders You can also check for a particular breed at AKC.org. They have good advice as to how to confirm that you are buying from a reputable breeder, too. Looking is free and whatever you learn is never wasted!

| Just a bit of info, AKC does not check out the breeders on their list. All one has to do is pay a fee and not to be suspended by AKC to be listed there.

| Akc I agree. Their listing will not guarantee a puppy that did not come from a mill or a bad breeder. They do inspect some breeders but I do not know of any that has ever been inspected. And let's face it, if someone wants to lie there is not much we can do to stop it except to be vigilant. Read the advice to buyers and learn from it. Does the breeder own the parents? Can you meet them? They may be out in a shed where kennels are stacked on top of each other. Where there are shaved and dirty dogs with no exercise room, no toys, nothing to entertain them, and no dental care ever provided. They will usually have a heavy leather collar with their AKC number engraved. Do not get in a hurry. Check the breeder out. Ask on YT and ask other yorkie owners in your area. If you meet a yorkie, ask the owner. Someone can tell you that Yorkie A is the mother and Yorkie B is the father even if one of the parents is another breed that lives down the street. I am sure that those people will be punished in the next life but for now, buyer beware. A reputable breeder will welcome your questions and your personal inspection. I am very picky about where my babies go and wish all other breeders were, too.

| Akc Oh, I forgot, ASK YOUR VET or vets in your area. They see the dogs and know a lot about what health care a breeder gives to the parents.

| I need some direction too I live in Virginia and I am also looking for a yorkie. My avatar is actually my grand-yorkie (daughter's little girl). So how do I check out a breeder and not fall in love with the little ones I see? Do I develop a relationship with the breeder before I even look at puppies? I have found the name of a person through AKC in Northern VA - so do I just email her and tell her I am looking for a puppy? Would you suggest that I do a lot of looking and visiting before I buy? Or is it about seeing the Mom and Dad and reserving a puppy? I've seen a couple of breeders on here that have some beautiful dogs they breed but I don't want to travel across the US to get one and I certainly wouldn't want to have a baby shipped all alone. Please advise. Mary |

Check out several breeders, develop a relationship with your breeder. You buy your breeder first. Your breeder will be available to you 7x24. Seeing mom and dad will not guarantee you what your pup will look like as an adult. Your concern is more with the health and welfare of the pup. You are wise not to want a pup shipped to you.....you want to see that pup and meet the breeder first hand. Trust your breeder too, she/he will attempt the match you and the pup (personality wise). While AKC is the registry most desired. Just because a breeder has AKC pups, it does not make them reputable..... Check out YTCA.org breeder referral page

| Breeder Hi, We're breeders located in PA. Many of our new owners come from the NJ/NY region. We currently have one female and one male remaining. For more information on us and our babies, please visit our website at Ferragame's Yorkshire Terriers Please feel free to email us at info@ferragame.com or call us at either 484-905-2488 or 610-914-6335 at your leisure. My wife is a Veterinary technician and all puppies are seen at her hospital before they go to their new homes. They have s physical performed and stool samples tested to ensure they are healthy. Also included is a one year health guarantee. All our Yorkies are AKC registered and have championship bloodlines.

| Did you ever find a yorkie? I live in Sterling, VA and have been looking for a couple months, but won't be able to bring one home until the end of March. There don't seem to be any available around right now and I don't want to get one long distance. I want to find a breeder within an hour or so. Thanks. Karen |
