| Need help with barking when you're not in puppy's sights Thank you guys! He has been such a joy and a great addition to our family. I have always wanted a Yorkie, and it has taken a while to convince all of my boys that we needed to get a little dog vs. a lab etc. which we have had in the past. They finally all gave in and when we finally went to pick him up, everyone fell in love(I knew they would, how can you resist!) I have read so much information over the past few months about the breed and about training and care in general; yet, I still have questions. Simon has such a nice temperment. But as a baby of almost 11 weeks, and been with us now for 2 weeks, I've noticed that he does not like to have any of us, especially me, out of his sight and it has gotten progressively worse since being here. He goes to sleep in a cozy little travel crate at night beautifully and we get up 1-2times at night to potty on the pad. But during the day, he has a play yard in our den where he can be with us/me, but when I leave it to go do laundry, go to the bathroom etc. he starts to bark. I've made a little "day crate" in this area to try, but it has not helped. He is only quiet when he goes in his "night night crate." So, my question is-how do I get him to learn to occupy himself and not bark everytime someone is not in sight? He has plenty of toys, food, water, TV etc. I've tried to ignore it and praise him when he gets quiet, etc. but it does not seem to be working. What can I do differently, or what am I doing wrong? Any ideas are appreciated. I know he is still very young, but I don't want to have him increase his anxiety, I'd like to nip it in the bud now. Any ideas? Thanks! |

| Kongs and Bully sticks!! Bree use to do the same thing in her play pen. I got her to keep herself "busy" with a knog with Pumpkin or a bully stick. The trick is when he barks for you don't go back in to the room until he is quite. b/c he will learn that everytime he "yaps" you will come a running. Than you will be trainned and not him... |

| Adorable! In addition to the great info you will gather her...I'd recommend getting Cesar Millan's book Ceasar's Way. It has made a huge difference in my house! |

| New Baby Simon is adorable! After my husband passed away my grown kids thought I needed a big dog for protection but I wanted a companion that I could chase around the table for exercise when the weather was bad! Yorkies are the best little buddies in the world. I talk to my kids if they get upset when I am out of sight. They also know they get a by-by before I leave the house. The phrase "Mama has to go to work" means I will be gone for a long time but they know I'll come back. Think like a Yorkie. You belong to Simon - not the other way around. If you left, are you coming back? Why, and where did you go? Tell Simon what is going on and you will be amazed at how quickly he seems to understand your phrases. Use the same ones when you can. Welcome to YT and enjoy your baby!
