I live in Frederick County, MD now, but lived in Carroll County for 27 years. Loved it, but when I remarried moved over here with my husband. My yorkie that was born/raised over there that has since gone over the rainbow bridge was taken care of by Westminster Veterinary Hosptial all of his life. They did a wonderful job. When we was put to sleep from heart problems at 13 years old, the female vet that handled it sent me a red rose in his name the day after. There are always many opinions, but they were wonderful to me and my "Fritter." Years have passed, and I now have 3 yorkies, Snickers, Almond Joy and their baby, Tootsie Pop and they all go to Emmitsburg Vet Hospital and they are wonderful too. Took a few tries in Frederick County to find them, but was worth the search. Hope you find a great one!

We live outside of Baltimore in Baltimore County. People don't know what a pleasure Yorkies are. My Hillary is so special, all of my family loves her and when I go to visit, they always insist that I bring her along. Some have even gotten a Yorkie just because of Hillary. I was lucky enough to get her from the Animal Shelter and that was the best move I ever made.

Animal Smiley 036 Yorkies with Baltimore as 2nd home

My babies, all 3 of them...Scarlet, Rhett and Bentley consider Baltimore as their 2nd home, my hometown. I am in the Navy finishing up a career, my family still lives there so we all make frequent trips and will make the final one soon.
Have a wonderful and Happy Easter

It's nice to see so many MD'ers on here! I was beginning to feel a bit out of place. I'm technically still a "newbie" and I haven't gotten my yorkie yet, so I'm wondering if you all could give me some info?

1. Where did you get your pups (breeder name, etc.)? (can't afford the expense of shipping, so I'll be picking up myself)

2. hillsmere, which vet do you use? (I'm in Baltimore City, but close to the county line)

3. Groomer rec's

4. Average yearly cost

Can't think of anything else right now, but believe me I'll be back!!

Default Newbie

Hi there,
I only have one Yorkie; a female and I was lucky enough to get her from the Baltimore County Animal Shelter. Since I didn't use a breeder, I can't give you a recommendation.
The Vet that I use is Westview Animal Hospital on Johnnycake Road in Baltimore County. They are great. They explain everything to the parent. I use Petco Grooming services: 410-581-3548, but I try to bathe her myself at least once a week.
I haven't calculated the yearly cost, but my Baby is fairly healthy. Just watch out for their dental care. I had to have most of her teeth extracted, because her previous owner neglected her teeth. It hasn't affected her eating. I give her Moist & Meaty by Purina.
Hope this wee bit of info is helpful. These dogs are wonderful and give unconditional love.
