| "Baby" Xapa (ka-ruh) Today we lost our sweet "Baby" Xapa to a copperhead bite. I thought I'd post a few pictures as our family works through some tough grief: As a puppy who "chose" us: q_Xapa 5 weeks_1_1_zpsrbwuq9x5.jpg Photo by jp_over | Photobucket Sophie and Xapa (left and right respectively): http://i1212.photobucket.com/albums/...psqtmqj3me.jpg |

| I am so very sorry for your loss......we do our best to protect our precious babies....and along comes the devil and our babies are lost.....and regardless of anything we do, these damn snakes still manage to encroach into our personal space and wreck havock.....I keep my dogs in the area right up around my back door lawn area, that is totally flag stoned in....few in ground shrubs, emptied out my fish pond and replaced it with a waterfall feature that I have NO doubt a snake can find relief in so I watch it closely....a snake will hide in your shadow if given the opportunity, so I am relentlessly double checking the area before the dogs go outside, while they are outside, and even every evening when the dogs are put up for good for the night. I am so sorry for your loss....we do the best we can do, and it still gets ahead of us sometimes.... |

| Both of your babies are so beautiful. I miss my little girls who are at the Rainbow Bridge a great deal, but their love and my memories of them still live deep within my heart. I am so sorry for your tragic loss. I hope in time your memories of Xapa will bring a many smiles to you and that they replace the overwhelming sadness and pain you are feeling.

| Dear Friends, It's tough to find people who understand such a devastating loss. I really appreciate the support (as does my family). Because this site has been so instrumental to our finding not only compassion, but also education, I have chosen to donate. Thanks so much!

| Thank you Friend! We still grieve all our little ones, but especially Xapa. Each time I get out of a chair or out of the bed I check for Baby Xapa; it's such a tough transition!

| We are really floating in the same sea of sorrow..I feel until my boys remains come home I cannot rest in my heart. It is as if he feels the same. The thoughts in grief are the worst. I hope we both can find a moment that the pain is not so unbearable. I cry as I type this..so hard..We have each other at least.. |

| updated pictures (opening post links broken) I did some picture organizing and now my photo links don't work on my opening post. Here are some pictures re-posted in a better format. Our other dogs lived to be graceful "old ladies" - we still just can't believe Xapa was taken in her prime. I've been checking the yard nightly and killed another copperhead last night for a total of 3. I hope to get ALL of them before we travel back to VA.
