| Polo - RIP My Yorkie - Polo - was one of Jeff Dane's pups. Polo was very tiny - under 2 Lb's when we got him at 8 wks. We took him home and a week later he was in Emergency from Hypoglycemic Shock. Jeff did take him for two weeks until he reached 2 Lbs and we were able to bring him home. From the beginning he was a noisy breather. As he got older, it got worse. He was nine years old but other than his breathing he seemed fine. He did have a luxating patela - which Jeff told us was very common in Yorkies (?). Polo had gotten where any excitement or exertion caused him to not be able to breath - his tongue and gums would turn blue and I would give hm a Tranquilizer so that he could breath again. He had a few more visits to the ER where he would spend a couple of hours in the oxygen cage. The last time I took him to the vet this April, I asked the vet if he should have his teeth cleaned. He said that we needed to address the breathing issue first. He examined him but was not able to hear his heart because he was breathing so loudly. He suggested I take him to MSU Veterinary Hospital. We took him there on April 23rd where he underwent two minor surgeries over two days. They would not let us see him because they wanted to keep him calm but on the 25th we got the call that they had been performing CPR on him for 10 minutes and wanted to know if we wanted them to stop! Of course we asked them to stop pounding on our poor puppy. He was gone. He had been doing well so they took him out of the oxygen cage and he was okay for a while but then became agitated, stopped breathing and then his heart gave out. In the Post Mortem they found that he had Septicemia - an infection in his blood. I had no idea. He had not had a fever, diarrhea nor had he been vomiting. He had seemed just like our happy little puppy. I have no idea what happened but we had him for nine wonderful years and we miss him so very much. We are looking for a Yorkie to rescue and there seem to be quite a few of them. We only paid $600 for Polo because he was going to be a large Yorkie - he weighed 14 Lbs. - and he had floppy ears. I guess that made him imperfect to some but he was perfect for us! Some day I will see my beautiful Polo again. Last edited by Polos Mom; 05-20-2014 at 07:31 PM. Reason: Misspelling |

| I am so very sorry for your loss. We never get to have them as long as we want and it is so hard to see them go. I hope the good memories will be a source of comfort to you as time goes by.

| I'm so sorry you lost your little Polo. It sounds like he went through a rough time and that must have been so hard for you to watch. I know it's hard for me to see my little girl sick. I know another yorkie won't replace him, but having another dog to enjoy will remind you of the good times with Polo. I hope you find a good rescue pup. |
