| Unbearable grief after freak accident I lost my pixie about a month ago now. It was so horrible, I haven't been even able to consider posting until now, but feel I have to warn others. We had a baby gate into the kitchen and when my seven year old daughter leaned over to pick her up to kiss her goodbye before school like every other morning, the gate gave way and fell onto Pixie. She was tiny (2 lbs) and she just couldn't recover from the trauma. She died that afternoon after having several x-rays and draining her lungs. The vet just couldn't get the internal bleeding to stop. So, any of you using baby gates, make sure the kind that attaches to the wall, not just pressure between the door frames. It was the worst day of my life. I couldn't sleep for days after. I thought something was really wrong with me because I couldn't stop crying & missed days of work. It seemed so unfair to loose Pixie to such a freak accident! I can see after reading some of these other threads, I am not alone in how deeply my grief effected me, and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this forum being here to "talk" to all of you because I think you guys might understand how deeply this has devestated me.

| I am so sorry about your loss and sorrow. Such a loss affects each of us in different ways, but sadness and depression are common. I am glad you posted to tell us about your loss and how you are coping, as well as to tell us of the accident. Take care!

| I am so sorry for your loss. Depression is common, so there is nothing wrong with that. We all grieve in differnt ways, but I hope things will get better for you.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I am so so sorry you lost your Pixie...That is truly tragic and it must be the hardest thing to wake up and not see her everyday....My heart goes out to you......It must have been very hard to post this but it was so nice of you to warn others of the dangers of the gates...I'm so sorry you found out about them this way....- Perhaps one day you can look at this poem without crying...but could you maybe read it to your daughter ? I want to send her a hug too - she must have just been so upset.....Bless her heart Dedicated to PIXIE....... Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown... |

| That is heartbreaking. I am so sorry. I hope your daughter understands it was just an accident that could have happened to anyone. Thank you for telling us about the baby gate, it might spare someone from the same tragedy.
