| Nymphadora is gone This morning my 7yr old son and 9yr old daughter were playing in our front yard with little Nymphadora who is 9 weeks old. We were finally able to bring her home last week but we visited her often at her breeder's house while she was growing. Our front yard has a sturdy 4ft tall chain link fence around it, and I had also tacked chicken wire up to about half way so no one could get through it. I heard my daughter scream like she was being murdered so I rushed outside. The sight that met me was one of the most horrible I can imagine. There was a large dog in my yard that my daughter was beating on and crying. My son, who is autistic was standing there in shock. The dog dropped something out of his mouth as my daughter beat on him. It was our little Nymph. I got my daughter away from the dog and managed to get him away from Nymph but it was to late. He had crushed her lungs and she is gone. My daughter scooped her up and I managed to catch the lab and call animal control. They took him away and his owners decided to have him put to sleep ASAP. From what the vet and my daughter told me he had only chomped down on her once but that crushed her little body. She didn't stand a chance. The dog's owners won't have any charges against them except for a ticket for having a dog at large, and that is fine with me. They did the right thing by having animal control put him to sleep even though I know they are mourning the loss of their dog as well right now. They are my neighbors and have never had Quinby get out of the yard before and have taken great care of him. He isn't the type of dog that even barks at you when you walk by his yard. He was always such a friendly boy and even went through doggy classes. I think he thought Nymph was a rabbit or something because there are many wild ones around here. What ever his thoughts were when he killed our baby, I am just glad it was not one of my children. I am so very sad and upset, but it does not compare to how my daughter is doing. Nymph was her baby and they were very, very close. Even though she was only with us a week she has made a huge impact on our lives and we will never forget her darling walk, her funny bark, and unfortunately, we will never be able to forget how her precious life ended. Never take things for granted because no matter how careful you are, bad things can happen when you least expect it.

| I feel so badly for all involved. I can't imagine what you or your babies are feeling after experiencing what happened to your little Nymph. I feel for the parents of the lab also, as it sounds as though he was not the typical "bad" dog. My heart goes out to you all!

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | My sincerest condolences to you and your family. So sorry for your loss. The lab probably did think your nymph was a bunny rabbit.

| OMG I am so sorry...my heart is just aching tonight reading about all of the babies who have died from an attack by another dog. I know you don't blame the other dog.. but it still hurts just the same. May your baby RIP

Our Blessings R Many Donating Member | I am so very sorry to hear about what happened to your precious Nymph, I am praying that your children are doing okay. Please give your daughter a hug for us and tell her that we both are praying for God to take the pain from her and the memory of what happened to you all. We hear of this happening far too, too many times. We just lost our ewe Phoebe 14 years of age, night before last looks like she too was attacked, I just recently chased two large dogs from her field, they jumped the fencing and was chasing her. Happened before in her younger years she use to be good at butting them and really knocked them for a loop, how I wish we had more control over these larger dogs that get out and take the lives of others precious pets. Phoebe was also a pet to us, my husband 73 years of age, started crying when he found her. He told me tonight he believes our sheep are also in heaven with God and all other pets. Heaven is forever, hopefully your daughter and you will remember her in this way, where all is good and all is well no more pain or suffering. Maybe later you can get another, in fact I truely feel the people that owned the big dog should pay for you to get another, if not right away, then later. Hugs to each of you. Patti and Jack and girls. |
