Today my miniature dachshund, Tootsie, escaped out of our yard and was hit by a car. I'm in shock at the loss of her. I alternate from sobbing, to talking about her like she's still here. I just can't believe this happened. I feel like such a horrible mommy. I had my husband come home from work early to help me find her. He found her on the side of the road dead. We haven't buried her yet..... my husband put her in a plastic bag until tomorrow when we'll bury her. I don't know if I should look at her and say goodbye. Will I regret it later if I don't say my last goodbyes to her? I want to see her and talk to her, but I'm scared that it will traumatize me. What should I do? Oh my gosh, I miss her so much. She would have turned 2 next month.

So very sorry for your loss. sometimes its just nice to remember them they way they were. She knew you loved her.

Oh, I am so sorry you lost your baby today! I am sure your heart is hurting so bad! You are not a bad Mommy- he escaped!- it was not your fault!
I do not know what to tell you about looking at him! What does your hubby think?/ And that is probably something you need to decide yourself!

Oh Tootsie, rest easy sweetie.

My heart reaches out to yours. Although we know that the pain will come one day, expected or sudden, it certainly doesn't dull it any, does it?

I don't think you will have any regrets no matter what you decide. You can talk to Tootsie any time. She will feel your love. She is already waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. She is running and playing until you meet again.

I am so sorry. I'm sending my thoughts and prayers. I don't know what you can do about saying your last goodbyes to her...but do whatever you think you have to.

Oh my I am sorry for your loss...we had the exact same thing happen with our cocker a couple years ago..it was so terrible hard to get over..big hugs!!

I've been through this before. I can tell you it is not easy at all to see them after. I've lost of few babies before and all but one I've seen. The one I didn't see and was able to say goodbye to after he was buried I can see clearly in my mind of when he was healthy. The others I had to see, I can still see the way I found them. It is very difficult. I'm here to talk if you need to as I'm sure everyone else is.

Tootsie, May you travel to the rainbow bridge in the arms of an angel.

Oh I am so sorry this happened to you.. I have been there, not with a car, but one falling off the bed and dying.. it was so devastating. something we never get over really. But we do become more protective, which some cannot understand..
I feel you pain, so much, for when I see a post like this, it brings back some old memories for me also..I am praying your heart will heal and that you can remember the good days as often as possible..
Please just know that my heart is so with you at this time..

I am so sorry! What a tragic accident! I had a mini dachshund that was killed by another dog. I cried and cried. Wish I could be there to give you a hug.

So sorry for your loss. I lost Lulu the same way on New Years Eve. I have to say that the damage she sustained was to her body so nothing untoward to her face. I had to see her to bring her from the road until hubby came down but I couldn't touch her more. I too had to see her. Not sure what the extent of the damage to her was but go by what hubby tells you. Please don't beat yourself up with blame. I too did that and sometimes play the was it my fault and it's not good.

Aww honey I am so so sorry. I know that there is not much that will heal your heart right now. Please know that your not to blame and she wouldn't want you to blame yourself.

I am so sorry for loss of your baby. I can only imagine the pain you are going through. Please don't blame yourself, she wouldn't want that.

As for me I would like to keep the image of her healthy and happy in my mind. Either decision you make I am sure will be the right one for you.

May God help you through this time and help heal your broken heart.

I am sooo sorry for your loss! I too have a miniature dachshund and I can't even begin to Imagine what you are going through right now. Personally I would want to remember my baby the way she was, happy memories! I would go and say goodbye after she's buried. My heart goes out to you
