Goodbye Sweet Katie

My parent's Jack Russel Terrier passed away this morning. When my mom woke up she went downstairs and their pitbull Na-Na followed and Katie is usually right behind her. Well this morning no Katie so when my Dad came home he went out looking for her and found her several blocks away on the main street literally squashed in the street (sorry to be graphic- just hurts). He said she was facing in the direction of home and that he believes she was run over by a truck, due to the extensive damage to her little body. My parents have a doggie door and a fenced in yard but Katie will sometimes dig her way out to chase after a cat, squirrel, groundhog, whatever, but she never roamed this far from their home before. My mother was doing up the breakfast dishes when my Dad returned and she heard a noise that sounded like he was talking excitedly so she assumed he was talking to Katie in the living room. That was not so...he was SOBBING that loudly. My mom said she's never seen someone cry so much. My heart breaks for him and for Katie. He loved that dog so much. He owns several shirts with Jack Russel pics on them that he wears with pride. She was his baby. He said all he keeps thinking about is how she looked laying there in the street. My mom keeps telling him not to think of her that way and to remember how she was but the shock of finding her that way weighs on his mind. He brought her home and buried her under their apple tree. I emailed them the Rainbow Bridge poem in hopes that they would find some comfort but my mom said she can't show it to my Dad because she herself couldn't make it through reading it without crying. Katie was a good dog. She made my daughter LOVE dogs and was protective of our baby boy. Just a sweet little girl. Sorry to ramble on but she will be greatly missed. Please pray for Katie and for my Dad, that he'll get through this horrible time and begin to dwell in the happy memories he made with his sweet Katie. Thank you.

oh i'm so sorry. its teriable to lose anything any way but that must have been terriable! I feel so badly for you your dad and your whole family. don't worry he'll get through it, but it will take time. it's just so hard to say how i feel for you. just know that my prayers are with your entire family and poor katie!

This is such a sad story! Katie sounds like such a wonderful little dog. How old was she? I cannot begin to know the grief they must be feeling and I will pray that their pain lessens with each passing day as they remember katie when she was happy and alive and think of her now waiting for them at Rainbow Bridge.

I know how hard it is to lose a friend prematurely.. And I can feel for your having having to had to see her like that... When I found my little Mocha hanging, it was the worst thing in the world... I always think about that and several people on here have told me to try to remember the good times... I will say a prayer for your family and for Katie.. My wishes

Tammy I am so sorry about what happened to little Katie and how your dad found her. What a horrible experience. What courage it took for your father to bring her home and bury her. But he will be glad he did. She was buried with dignity. I will be praying for your family.

I am so sorry to hear of your parents loss. The hurt is sometimes unbearable. Your dad will never be totally without her, she now lives in his heart. Sometimes to fill the empty feeling in the house, is to replace it with a new love. God Bless Your Family.

Thank you all so much for your thoughts and your prayers. I told my mom about everyone here on YT sending prayers and thoughts my parents' way and they are deeply touched. My Dad read the Rainbow Bridge poem today. I'm not sure if it helped him at all but I feel better knowing he read it. Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers. I know it REALLY helps.

Kim ~ Katie was 6 1/2 years old. Too young for her to leave so soon. She was such a good dog. It's hard to put into words just how sweet she was. I am just sorry that my 8 month old son won't remember her and how much she loved him whenever we went to visit my parents. My daughter took the news hard for she loved Katie so much and Katie loved her just the same. My poor Dad is beside himself. He is lost right now without his Katie girl and my parent's other dog, Na-Na, is totally confused and scared, not knowing what happened or where her sissy Katie is. She's been huddlling on the bathroom floor and under the bed, her two places she goes when she's afraid. I just feel bad for them all .
