| She would have turned 18 this spring Hello everyone, my name is Kathy and I have been here reading many times in the last couple months. You all sound like such understanding people, that I hope my post will not be delited. Though I do have a yorkie (peanut) today was all about my little "Taco Bell Dog" Betsy. We lost her today during surgery to have the few teeth she still had left removed. She would have been 18 this spring. I knew there was a chance that she would not make it, and now feel so bad that I was willing to make her go through surgery just to try to have her for another year or two. I feel so bad that I did not just take her in to have her put to sleep. She had not eaten for days, and was so weak. She should have passed in my arms, with me telling her how much I loved her....not alone on the surgery table. I know my vet did all he could....he had been her vet for 16 years, and was almost crying when he came out to tell me. Let me tell you about her please....I really need to tell somebody. The first time I seen her I had gone to a garage to see the paint job on my nephews car and there was a little girl of 4 swinging this little dog by her front paws...I walked up to her dad and told him...I'll give you $50 for that dog...thank goodness they sold her to me or I dont know what I would have done! I went back to work, and there I seen that there was something around her neck. I went over to the sheet metal shop for them to help me...the sob's had put a bicycle chain around her neck and it was digging into her skin...they had to cut it off with bolt cutters. That was the easy part...than I had to go home and tell my husband that I just bought a dog that would only let me touch her...she tried to take off everybody elses fingers! With time and love she turned into the most wonderful dog you could want. The odd thing was, she still hated little girls and I had to really watch her around them...odder yet was that she picked my 4 yr old daughter for her person. From the day I brought her home, my daughter did not play with her dolls any more. But we did have a dog, in a dress and diaper, wrapped in a blanked being pushed up and down the street in a little girls play baby buggy. My daughter says her first memory that she can remember was the day I brought Betsy home, so it has been really hard on her too. We still have our little yorkie (peanut) and my loveable mut (U.B.) but the house seems so empty. Twice I have already forgoten she is gone and went to get her treat bag for her (that is all I have been able to get her to eat for the last few days). I just miss her soooo much! Thank you for letting me have a good cry and post my story about Betsy. Not everyone wants to hear someone cry about their dog...lots of people think I am off my rocker because I love my dogs so much....but thats ok with me because they give me and my family so much more than we can ever give back to them. I am going to try to attach a pic of my babies so you can see how beautiful they all are. Thanks, Kathy |

| Welcome to YT! I'm so sorry you lost little Betsy. My heart breaks for you, we understand your pain, and will help you through where ever we can. She had a rough start in her life, but all the years she had you, make up for all those horrible days she had. She lived a long, beautiful life. The hardest part is, when they have to leave us, but i know in my heart, that one day, she will be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge, and you will be reunited. Stay strong, but cry when you have to, we are right here for you. R.I.P Betsy

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | What a great story about a terrific dog. Thanks for sharing. And don't second guess yourself about the surgery. Any one of us would have done the same thing. You tried as hard as you could to keep her. In the end, she lived longer than most dogs and had a wonderful life. We should all have it so good.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Betsy had a wonderful love filled life with you. Personally I love hearing she was a fur covered doll being pushed in a carriage by your daughter. Treasure those sweet sweet memories and may time heal your ache. Take care ~

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Kathy I am so sorry for your loss of Betsy. It sounds to me that you saved her from a horrible (and maybe much shorter) life when you bought her that day. I am sure Betsy knew you loved her and felt it from you as you comforted her before she went into surgery, so don't feel so bad about not being with her at the very end. I feel and understand your pain as we just lost our Alfie of 14 yrs this past weekend. As far as some people feeling as if you're off your rocker for loving your dogs so much....no one here would ever feel that way as we all love our babies as much as you love yours. So please, stick around, this is a great website. And when you're feeling a little better, we'd love to hear more about your yorkie, Peanut and U.B. Sending prayers to you and your family............. Betsy

| Kathy, Welcome to YT. I'm sorry it's under such sad circumstances. You saved Betsy and gave her a long, love-filled life. You were her guardian angel and now she will be watching over you. I am so sorry for your loss. And, I too, would love to hear more about Peanut and U.B. when you are ready. Rest peacefully, Precious Baby Girl. Sandy

| While I'm sure you wish you had the memory of being able to tell her goodbye, she had 18 wonderful doggy-bliss years of knowing that she was LOVED by you and your family. You can bet she knew that you were doing all you could to help her. Her story was precious, so thank you for sharing it with us. Hope you stick around and continue to talk to us about your other fur-kids!

Donating YT 500 Club Member | How horrible an experience for you. At least you know you have a place where you can come that people will not only understand and relate to the deep love you had for Betsy and have for your other babies, they will also know the devastation you are feeling at her loss. Saying goodbye is never easy and I have to think that Betsy took it upon herself to spare you that. As for the surgery, you were only doing what you thought you could do to make her better. It seems like from the time you first saw her, you were doing that, so please, hard as it is, don't beat yourself up. Betsy wouldn't want it. Your love and compassion rescued her and gave her a home better than most dogs -- and probably kids, too -- could ever dream of. I will pray for you and your family that you find healing and peace. Now that you're here, maybe you can join in on some of the other threads. It may help you. |
